Other News:

Rock Creek Lake went ice-free on Sunday, 5/6.  The road to Mosquito Flat is OPEN.  Rock Creek Lakes Resort's store will be opening on May 19.  Pie will be available on May 25!  Cabins are already for rent, and you can get 3 nights for the price of 2 until June 9, excluding Memorial Weekend.  Call 760-935-4311 to check availability.

The backcountry lakes and trails are melting out quickly.  Heart Lake and all the lakes in Little Lakes Valley were still icy on May 12, but with the warm conditions and nights staying above freezing, that ice will be thawing soon.  There is very little snow on the trail until you hit Long Lake, and the trail really isn't completely snowy until above Chickenfoot.  By Memorial Weekend, all the backcountry lakes and trails should be completely accessible.  Here's a couple of shots of Little Lakes Valley taken on May 12 by Scott Stoner of Bishop...
