Title: last trip of the season
Post by: bstolton on October 18, 2016, 08:50:25 PM
Heading up early, early Friday morning for a quick end of season trip. Thinking about fishing the Owens Friday, but don`t have much experience with it, although I have fished PVR a number of times. Heard people mention Collins road and Benton Crossing and I know certain areas have special regs, anybody have any spots they recommend. Saturday we will be venturing farther north possibly Virginia lakes or the loop and then late Saturday or Sunday morning we should be at RCL . Looks like the weather is going to be real nice, hopefully the fish gods will be nice to us too.

The Upper Owens has been pretty tough for the last month, water is high and fast. Special regs are in effect, artificial barbless only, catch and release. I don't know anything about the River by Bishop, I never fish there.
Where will you be staying? Let me know if you're really interested in fishing the River.

I fished the upper Owens on two trips in Sept, first of the month and end of the month and fishing was terrible. Caught only about 3 small fish...Had pretty good luck on the Lower Owens at Line Street all the way to Warm Springs...Caught a nice 4.9 pd. north of Line Street and a nice 2.5 pound at Warm Springs.

R96

We fished the lower Owens and found some nice grade fish also, Unfortunately I got busted off twice, but did land a 16" and my buddy got a 21" 3lb

All the fish we caught up north were small, which has been my experience the last 2-3 years.

The last few years the Upper Owens fishing has been absolutely horrible, most of the fish I have caught have only been in the 6-10 inch range...I like fishing the Lower river in the fall and winter as its not so hot and not that many other fishermen.
