Title: Blake Jones tournamment cancelled
Post by: retired96 on February 28, 2017, 04:21:29 PM
City of Bishop has canceled the 50th Blake Jones fishing tournament.. DWP has withdrawn their permission to use PVR due to dangerous conditions in the reservoir and the Owens River.  Lot of people are upset as they have already paid entry fees and made motel reservations... One person on another site said he heard the water at PVR is high as the road.

The chamber of commerce wanted to move it to Millipond rec. area, but DFW said its not legal to fish that area now, so the they had no choice but to cancel the 50th year of the event...DWP says they will be releasing massive amounts of water from PVR thus making the river a dangerous place to fish with extremely high flows.  A local that lives up there said PVR right now is just a river running thru it so they had to have released millions of gallons of water. The tournament usually brings 400,000 dollars to the community so thats a big money loss for the small town.

Per a local resident, the water was released in just the past 3-4 days, he says its so low you could not float a boat, he said its just a stream running thru PVR.  Thats tens of millions of gallons of water they have released into the Owens River.
