Eastern Sierra Forum / Re: The bears in Rock Creek
« on: July 31, 2015, 01:25:42 PM »
There is some discussion on the "Club 2015 Bear" thread, but I thought this topic needed it's own heading.
My family and I just spent 5 days in East Fork. There is a Mom bear with two cubs wandering around now, everybody thought she was the only one....wrong. We saw bears every day, lots mid-day, pretty much unafraid of humans. We heard reports of cars being broken into, as well as anything the campers were lax enough to leave laying around. One of them broke into a container my niece left out, it didn't even have food in it.
Mid week the DFW Wardens started coming by, looking things over. I had the chance to talk with the one warden I know, got a lot of good information. There are now 6 (yes, six) bears in the immediate area, and it seems they are all problem bears. Two sows, one with one cub, and the one we saw with two cubs, the rest seem to be males.
The warden told me that their hands are tied right now, they really can't do anything until one, or more, of the bears becomes aggressive toward humans, even then they can only do so much. His biggest hope was that they could be harvested when the bear season opens. A sad situation, but something has to be done.
The camp hosts are doing a good job of talking to all the campers, telling them what they should be doing....but, we all know about tourists....you can lead a horse to water......
So, if you come up, be prepared, follow the rules, you should be all right.
I will say that it was a little eerie laying in a tent on the ground, imagining that the bears were cruising all around me all night, I felt kind of like a sandwich.
And, the cubs are unbelievably cute, bring your cameras.

Well since we have season passes, we picked up my brother in-laws youngest boy after school and went to Disneyland. It's nice to go and just stroll around not being in a hurry and trying to get on every ride before closing. There we were standing in line for soring over California, when my nephew started eating his tube of flavored sugar, it was not my idea on getting that stuff! well he though he could eat the whole thing at once, bad idea. He started choking and is lips were turning blue, luckily that was only from the blue sugar. Got him to raise his hands above his head and to breath through his nose, that helped till we could get him a sip of his water. he's fine, but it's always an adventure with my nephews!

As a counselor this made me very excited for all of you. You ARE on the right path. Many never consider this support system available. Best wishes as you all venture through, what will be, a positive journey together.

Thank you!

Thank you.
Yes the healing has begun and will be a very long road for some. we as a family have sighed up for and have started a grief share group.
The boys are very excited to go camping up at the creek, I'm trying to set up a trip a week or two after the opener.

Thank you all!

I never met him, but I would venture to believe this put a smile on his face. It also sounds from his past affiliations that he is definitely in a good place! You have stepped up to a very important place in his family's needs. I am sure you will also be blessed through this. Hopefully someday we can all gather around a fire and tell happy stories of those gone on before us.

Disneyland was great! the kids had a great time and my feet are sore from all that walking. We stayed at the Grand California Hotel, I love this hotel. There was ten of us on this trip and no major issues other than feeling like a cat wrangler most of the time. I'm now planning a spring time fishing trip to french camp with the boy's.

My family is going to Disneyland for three day with my brother in-laws wife and kids. He told the kids that when he was felling better he would take them. A family in a church where he was a youth pastor a few years ago bought the family season tickets

[Bestfrets...where did you find the delinquent tax list? Definitely sounds like Aspen Springs/Happy Jack's.
Another problem with my @#&*! dial up...I can't access all the good looking sites that might tell us this info. If anyone else wants to look, keep me informed?
