Anything Goes / Re: Entry into Yosemite could cost up to $70

"From comment website"

All of the money will stay within the National Park Service. 80% of the money will remain in the
park where it is collected. The other 20% will be spent on projects in other national parks. The
funds will be expended on projects and activities that further the mission and purpose of the
NPS, with an emphasis on deferred maintenance. This includes roads, bridges, campgrounds,
waterlines, bathrooms, and other visitor services.

If it improves park infrastructure in any small way I am OK with it.

Did not make it to KP.  Started too late in the morning.  Coming back over the rise from Matlock I could see the last switchback of KP.  A thin pale 45 degree line up populated with 6 little ants. 4 going up, 2 going down.  I was getting tired by that time and frankly it looked a little intimidating to me.  For me I need to start from Gilbert or Flower early in the morning.  I am a risk averse old goat and will get it done under the right conditions.  It was beautiful up there but the weather was spooky. lf

Weather was windy and cold 10/2 thru 10/4. Saw a few fish in Gilbert and Flower.  Definitely 4 season gear required, I was under geared for this trip. No place or time for lightweight tent and bag.
Interesting to meet many  PCT through hikers who come over KP to resupply. That is a  tough 16 might. R/T.

Photo problems kept me from posting pics of late June 19-22 trip up the NFBPC.  Cleared some trees across trail and caught fish at 1st and 4th lakes.  Creek  hard to fish due to heavy flow.

Last thought:
Forgot to mention 2 guys who hiked in their float tubes to 1st Lake, their packs were both over 50 and so were they.  They were able to fish in some of the best places.  I didn't see their catch so don't know how they did.  Props to them for humping FT stuff up that mountain.  lf

Water thundering down the mountain.  Trail good until 1st Lake where 2 trees are down across trail and snow begins.  More snow above 2nd Lake and trail is mushy and wet many places.  Trail from 3rd to 4th has plenty of snow and cleats would help.  Some drifts +10' and many snow tunnels getting thinner by the day.  Below 1st Lake there is a crossing (the stepping stones) that is normally doable without getting wet.  Good luck with that.  Fishing was good at 1st lake.  Photos to follow.  lf

The MM South TH is 210 miles from Ventura.

Driving in  a heavily loaded Toyota Tacoma PU took 45 minutes from Sherman Pass Rd. to Manter Meadow South TH, approximately 15 miles.  Road condition very good, watch for cows on the road.  From Kernville 47 miles to TH.

Los Padres Forest Association from Santa Barbara with tons of pack support from the Backcountry Horsemen of California,
Los Padres Unit.  Stayed at Government Camp (aka Horse Camp) and worked trails 34E37, 34E37A, 34E08 and 34E12.  Nasty hot work but felt good with the results.  What fly worked best in Manter Creek?

Dehydration would be my guess.  It's surprising how little water you drink when your surrounded by it.  Just sayin'

Just a weird coincidence checking this board after a 5 day trail clearing trip to Manter Meadow, 7/21 thru 7/26.  No fishing for us this trip;
tree clearing and brushing in VERY HOT weather.  Beautiful place.

Inflow from 2nd Lake.  Lots of water this year, lakes all full.  Fished up to 5th Lake; biting on everything.  Spent 1/2 a day breaking down illegal fire pits (some people still don't understand the "No Fires" sign near Black Lake junction).

Note to Hikers:  2 "widowmakers" at 2nd Lake Inlet camp.  Notified USFS 6_26_16.

Historically February and March are the major water producers in an El Nino year, but yeah I feel your doubt.  The mountains are still bone dry in Ojai.

Beautiful week of "Glamping" at TPR.  Hiked Gardisky and Gaylor Lakes (jeez, stairways to heaven).  Straight up is the only way to describe those hikes.
Saddlebag is very low but LV Creek running well and full of fish. Side trips up to Twin Lakes.  Nada and windy.  Silver Lake and Rush creek.  Nada but beautiful.  RC looks slow and low.

Weather was perfect the whole time and well appreciated after coming up from Southern California.  Annual event for my Mrs. and I and it was a beautiful trip.  Cool little drive down the canyon to the Latte Da Coffee Café to check messages and keep up with the Biz.  Great Corn Meal Muffins and lots of hippies.  Very cool like Berkeley in the 60's.

Caught and released 14 fish over the week, largest +/- 18".  Wonderful trip.
