Eastern Sierra Forum / Birthday Trip Recap
« on: September 18, 2017, 03:53:34 PM »
First off, I have to say that this trip was probably one of the best I've ever had.  Not that is was my birthday, but because everything was just so perfect.  My wife and I got to the lake Friday morning and boy was it nice.  It was way cooler and you could tell the season was changing.  I did notice right away that the water levels were back to normal.  So of course our fishing spot wasn't under water this time.  We got up early Saturday morning and hit the lake for some fishing.  The fishing was amazing.  My wife and I both maxed out every day we were there and I even caught two huge monsters.  These fish were the biggest I've ever caught at the lake in all the years I've been going (happy birthday to me).  A lot of people were pulling out a lot of nice ones.  The board in the lodge was covered with photos of people and their fish.  Another thing that stood out right away was the absence of mosquitos.  Probably because it was cooler weather.  We hit the lake every day and had a blast with all the action.  Having a full stringer at the end is a very humbling feeling.  We took the hike up to Long Lake and soon as we got there it began to pour and I mean pour.  This made it fun.  We got soaked as if we jumped in the lake but hey, this hike was one that I will never forget.  The rain didn't bother us.  We just told ourselves, "we're wet and there's nothing we can do about it."  Every morning brought nice clear skies and no wind.  This trip was so relaxing.  I also took a great photo of the lake from our fishing spot and had it blown up which now is a focal point when you walk into our living room.  What can I say, Rock Creek Lake is my home away from home.

Eastern Sierra Forum / Birthday Trip This Weekend
« on: September 07, 2017, 03:56:30 PM »
After taking our annual Rock Creek Lake trip in July I thought it would be a good idea to head back up this weekend with my wife to spend my birthday on the lake.  We'll be heading up tomorrow and staying for a few days.  When we were there in July the water levels were still crazy high.  The rocks we normally sit on were completely under water.  I'd say the lake was about 3 feet higher than normal.  Walking around the lake still had water runoff coming from all over the place.  I have never seen it like this before.  I'm not quite sure what to expect when we get up there tomorrow but that doesn't matter.  As long as I'm up there I'm good.  We plan on fishing every day (yes my wife gets up early and fishes every day with me).  We'll also do some hiking.  Hope you all enjoy reading this.  This forum is also my way of taking mental vacations knowing that so many of you out there enjoy the outdoors.  Rock Creek Lake is a part of my life and can't imagine my life without it.  I wonder how many of you feel the same.

Eastern Sierra Forum / Headed To Rock Creek Lake Tomorrow
« on: July 07, 2017, 07:02:18 PM »
It's finally here.  My wife and I are headed up to Rock Creek Lake tomorrow.  After a long years wait we finally get to return back to the lake where I belong.  It will be interesting to finally see everything that has been happening with all the extra snow melt.  Based on what the lodge has been posting it will be awesome to see it with my own eyes.  The water levels are higher than ever before.  I need to get out on that lake and do some serious fishing.  My wife and I will also be hiking up to the higher lakes.  I will post a follow up report when I get back.  Take care.

Eastern Sierra Forum / Crowley Lake Cam
« on: January 22, 2017, 11:10:16 AM »
Did you guys know there is a live Crowley Lake Cam?  I've been watching it for awhile.  Google search The Trout Fly Cam.  This will give you a visual of the weather.  Thought you guys would like to know.  There's lots of snow fall right now.  Just wish there was a Rock Creek Lake Cam.

Eastern Sierra Forum / Headed up in two days!
« on: July 06, 2016, 03:52:34 PM »
Hey everyone.  I am a newbie to this site.  I have no idea why I haven't found this sooner.  I will be headed up in two days and can't wait.  I have been visiting Rock Creek Lake ever since I was a baby.  My great grand parents have been going since the 1920's and it's been a yearly family tradition ever since.  All I can say is I love it there.  There's nothing like that feeling of finally pulling off the 395 and turning into Tom's Place and seeing the sign that says Rock Creek Lake 9 Miles.  Those die hards will know what I saying.  I will always remember those fond memories of sitting next to my grandpa on the lake just waiting for the fish to bite.  My wife loves it there too.  This will be the second time she has been there.  I will continue to go every year and look forward to carrying on the family tradition.
