Thanks Ray for the update.  It should be fun navigating around the icebergs on our float tubes for sure.  I read there are flood warnings by Crowley due to the heat and the creeks running so strong.  Hopefully Tuff campground is not having any issues or we will be in for a big surprise on Wednesday.  Can't wait to get up there and get a line in the waters.

Cheers,
Tony

I had the same question and I called Tom's place.  This will be our first time bringing a trailer up there as we always have tent camped in the past.  I was told there is a dump station right by French camp that you can fill up at and dump.  I didn't want to tow with all the extra weight either.  Enjoy your travels!

Tony

Thanks Retired for the info.  We booked Tuff as we found two spots together that were big enough for our trailer.  Hoping we can find something at Iris or Big Meadow but wanted a backup plan.  Thanks again.

Tony

With East Fork closed along with a few other spots up Rock Creek I'm concerned the spots that are open might be crowded or full.  French and Tuff both have a few spots open.  I'm thinking about booking a couple spots just in case.  I have never camped at either of them.  For those of you that have camped at both can you offer the positives and negatives of both spots.  Tuff looks a nice spot right on the creek and the spots available look good size.  I appreciate any input that can be offered.

Tony

Playingmenace, I really appreciate the update.  Sounds like we should be able to at least drive up to the outlet of the lake and park.  Hopefully the ice breaks up enough so we can maneuver around on our float tubes.  I guess all we can do now is wait for mother nature to do her thing.  Thanks again for the info.

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks for the info.  Does anyone know if the road is now clear to the lake and launch ramp?  Last report I read it was not.

Morning,

Has the lake thawed out yet?  Are all the campgrounds up Rock Creek now open?  I'm guessing the ones by the lake are still closed.  Heading up next Wednesday and want to be prepared.  Can wait to get on the water.

Cheer,
Tony

So our reservation was cancelled and money refunded.  The campground is now stating an opening of June 15th.  We will now be staying somewhere in the Rock Creek area.  Excited to get up there and get into some trout for sure!

Tony

I have always used this link for the stocking schedule.

We will be fishing the area the week of June 7th so hopefully we leave you some fish!......

Best of luck!

I did find out on Reserve America they are anticipating a June 1st opening.  If that does not happen we will be up in Rock Creek for sure.  We were bringing a trailer for the first time so that is why we made a reservation.  We will leave the trailer at home if heading to Rock Creek.  Thanks for the input.

Cheers,
Tony

Hey All,

We have a reservation at Four Jeffreys campground in Bishop for June 7th.  I have heard they have not opened due to a water issue.  Does anyone by chance know if this issue is resolved and the campground is open?  I cannot reach anyone up there.  I cannot find any info on the internet either regarding this issue.  Does anyone have a phone number of who would have the details?  We want to have a backup plan in case there are still issues there.  Thanks for any suggestions or help you can provide.

Eastern Sierra Fishing / Favorite Lake Lure & Favorite Creek Fly
« on: April 25, 2016, 06:11:47 PM »
The board has been pretty quiet lately so I thought I would throw out a question to get some chatter.  What is everyone's favorite RCL lure and creek fly?  I seem to always hit trout on the lake with a Thomas Buoyant red & gold.  My go to on the creek is a Elk Hair Caddis.  What's everyone else's go to?

Can't wait to get back up RCL this year.  Our trip is early June this year and its not coming fast enough.  Good luck to everyone hitting the opener this weekend.

Nothing better than turning off your cellphone, TV, and computer and detaching from the rat race of life for a few days.  Rock Creek is therapeutic for me and I'm sure many others.  I could sit in my float tube fishing and staring at the backdrop of the mountains all day with a smile on my face.  Listening to the creek at night back at camp while cooking up a steak is like heaven on earth.  You have not lived until you experience the Eastern Sierra's.  Just my two cents....

My 6.9 St. Croix rod just arrived in the mail.  The Tournament ZX just went on sale at Cabela's for $59.99 so I just ordered two.  Saved $40 bucks and free shipping!  Thanks again wshawkins for the suggestions.  I did some reviews and both are very highly rated.  I'm now dying to get to the creeks and catch some trout.  Might have to do a test run locally before I can make it up in June for our trip.

Thanks for the great suggestions!  Based on your responses it seems like there are no small campgrounds in the Mammoth area.  Looks like we might being staying in Bishop this year.  We like to fish as many spots as we can squeeze in so Mammoth was on our radar as a central location.  We can hit plenty of holes in Bishop and then make it to RCL for pie of course!

Anything Goes / Campground Suggestions
« on: March 01, 2016, 10:49:22 AM »
Good morning Everybody,

We have been camping in Rock Creek and June Loop for years now.  We are thinking about trying out some new spots this year and are looking for suggestions.  Our group is about 8-10 so we typically need 2 spots.  We really prefer to be in smaller campgrounds.  We love places like Rock Creek Lake, Big Meadow, and Gull.  We are thinking about the Mammoth area but based on my research I cannot find much on the small side.  We would love to have a creek, pond, or lake we can fish at camp.  Willing to consider the Bishop area as well just for a change in scenery.  Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Thanks so much for the great information.  I have read great reviews regarding the St. Croix rod.  This is more in my price range as opposed to the G. Loomis.  Now I will begin the hunt for a reel that fits the rod.  Looking forward to a great season in 2016.  Now lets fill the Sierra's with some snow!

Good morning,

This new setup would be for small spinners in the creeks.  Maybe some bait fishing but not normally my style.  Thanks again.

Merry Christmas Everyone!  I'm looking to get a new set-up for creek fishing.  I want something where I can feel the tiniest of nibbles.  Looking for a great reel to pair it with.  Resident experts opinions are most welcome.  Ready, set, go..............

Any word on when the 4 hour delays are going to hit?  Planning to come up June 4th - 8th but don't want to get stuck in the delay nightmare.  How far up is the construction at this point?  Any suggestions for alternate campgrounds to check out in the Mammoth area as a backup plan?  Thanks for the input.

The pessimism on the threads lately is unbecoming. Didn't your parents ever tell you to try and spin the positive? Debbie Downer needs to go..... Smile people, life is good.

Thanks LH for the input.  Do we just check here on this forum or is there somewhere on line that gives up to date info on what is open?  Seems like East Fork is the only place on Reserve America that give specific dates.  Thanks again.
