LOL - love the comment about the giant hooks being used... I just figure that leaves more for the rest of us to catch.  Sounded like a fun time, r96.

This is AWESOME.  Will definitely save on some exploration and fishless lakes.

Lemon, salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil, green onions - wrapped in foil.  Yum!

Thanks so much everyone - I know I'll love fly fishing when I eventually learn to, but for now, I'm happy with the fly / bubble.  I went ahead an ordered several streamers - wooly buggers, matukas, pistol petes, etc.

Hey Scott,

Here's something I found:  http://www.highsierratopix.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7563&start=12.  Looks like ice is up to Chickenfoot still, but melting fast it seems considering everything was iced over when you went a couple of weeks ago.

Eastern Sierra Fishing / Bubble and fly during the day
« on: May 17, 2012, 06:22:25 PM »
Hello all,

As I try and grow in my fishing skills, I'm wondering what works during the day in terms of a fly and bubble in the backcountry.  I have success during dawn / dusk with a nymph (or really anything), but during the day I find it difficult to find something the fish are wanting.  Occasionally I do get into a bite in the day time with my go-to flies, but I usually switch to the lures at that point.  I'm not complaining, because I catch fish, but I was wondering what might I try during the day on the fly/bubble setup?

Thanks,
Brian

Love, love, love that action shot!  That one's worth a framing!

How do you all fish the wooly's?  I've tried many times with nothing to show for it.

Thanks Packer.  I'm definitely going up for the view as well.  Nothing like being on top of the world. :)

I guess I should have prefaced that with, "The way I would go is.. " Haha... that's soo much elevation gain, but I hear you on the Agnew Meadows route as well.  Either way, it's not an easy day hike by any means! :)

Clark Lakes are a little bit northeast of Thousand Island and can be reached by taking the high trail from Agnew Meadows.  It's about a 12 - 14 mile round trip hike with a 1600' elevation gain.

That railway picture is hilarious to me: "Hey, let's build some tracks right there!  Seem as good a place as any.  We'll just push stuff up - and getting down - well that'll be a piece of cake."  LOL.   :lol2:
