Eastern Sierra Forum / Request RCL Info
« on: March 22, 2017, 11:15:28 AM »
Hello Fellow Creekers,

I've been going fishing to RCL for over 25 years, but in all these years I've never had the opportunity to see the lake frozen. A couple of weeks ago I decided to do an over nighter just to photograph the lake.

I arrived at Tom's Place at 5AM but to my greatest disappointed, I had no idea that the 9 mile road was not plowed. I attempted to hike the 9 mile journey up in the snow and despite the extreme difficulty, I managed to make it up to Snow Park (I believe 6 miles in). However I had to quit when I was no longer able to move past that point because I was falling waist deep in the snow.  :( So reluctantly I hiked back down the 6 miles.  :cold:

So my question is, does anyone know when they will clear the road all the way up to the lake? I'd really, really (really) like to make it there before the lake melts!!! Any advice would be most appreciated.

BTW, here's some pics of that trip, in-case anyone cares;

Thank you all.

Eastern Sierra Forum / RCL Pictures
« on: March 07, 2016, 12:51:15 PM »
Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have any current pictures (from 1 week ago to today), of RCL, Tom's Place, or the surrounding vicinity? I fish RCL & the whole area yearly, but I've never been up there in the white. I would love to see the area blanketed with snow, if it's still available. Thinking of just coming up one morning & leaving the next day, just enough time to hike & take picture.

It's in the 80s down here in LA, so not sure how it is up there. If no pictures are available, can anyone describe the current conditions. How many inches are there, and if you think it still will be there by next week.

Thanks all.

Eastern Sierra Forum / Season Closing
« on: July 22, 2015, 05:01:05 PM »
Hello Creekers,

We're planning our annual pilgrimage to RCL a little later than usual this year--November.  :cold:
Does anyone know when the fishing season ends? Are the roads open that late in the year to fish RCL?

If none of the above is possible, what are the alternatives?

Thank you in advance.

Eastern Sierra Forum / Saddelback Lake

I'm making my annual pilgrimage to RCL next week. May stop off at Saddlebag one of the days. Tried to call the store at Saddlebag, but the number is disconnected.

Does anyone know if they are still in business, or open? Does anyone have a new number for them?

Thanks,
Clint

Eastern Sierra Forum / How's the Water Level?
« on: August 20, 2013, 12:55:16 PM »
Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows what the conditions are at Saddleback Lake. We will be coming up for 4 days in mid September, staying at Rock Creek Lake and making a drive one of the days to Saddleback. I don't want to make the drive in vain. Last year the water was very low and fishing was not that great. Any feedback is very much appreciated.
Also, how's the fishing at RCL? Is the water low there or not? As I mentioned, the bulk of our stay will be  :tent: tent camping at RCL.

Thanks,
Clint

Eastern Sierra Forum / Planning New Trip to RCL

Hello Rock Creekers,

I will be making my annual pilgrimage to RCL Thursday thru Sunday—FINALLY!  :fishing3:  Can’t wait for the fall colors and the cold.  :wood:

One of my goals is to try 2 new lakes; Trumbull and North Lake.

Does anyone know how far North Lake is from Bishop? Miles AND time traveled would be appreciated, if you know both.

Thanks,
Clint

Eastern Sierra Forum / Fall Trip
« on: September 21, 2012, 12:46:00 PM »
Hi All,

I'm a long time member of this board, but couldn’t login today. Had to create a new account.

At any rate, I’m planning my annual fix—(a fall trip to my 2nd favorite place on earth), RCL.
I will be arriving on the weekend of October 18th. I always stay at RCL, but a co-worker suggested trying Trumbal Lake, along with the other Virginia Lakes in that area for some great fishing.

I’ve never been there before & needed some serious advice.
1.   How’s the fishing there? Is it worth the drive?
2.   Is the lodge open up there? If not, do you have a recommendation for a lodge to stay in near that vicinity?
3.   Is there anything else I should be aware of? I know it will be freezing,  :cold: but other than that, do I need to be on the lookout for anything else?

Appreciate any comments or advice that you may have to offer.

Thanks.
