Eastern Sierra Trip Reports / Trip Canceled

Thought my son and I would be in the canyon Friday morning for four days, however life spins in its own way. Last February we lost our Black Lab Jessie Mae to a liver disease. Seven days of watching a family member pass. Our lives have been empty ever since. Thought babysiting our Grandaughter and my daughters dog Willow would help fill the gap but all it really did was help the healing period and create the  need for another dog. Last Monday my wife met an old friend at the Grocery Store found out that their Black Lab had fathered a litter of puppies. She was not to be stopped. Friday Georgia Mae came home to her new family. What a weekend, the love fest was on. Yea! she is into my planter beds like Jessie did as a pup and she is after Nana's slippers but the emptiness has been filled. Didn't make it up this summer but next summer Georgia Mae will start her enjoyment of Gods Country chasing squirrels around the Meadows of Upper Pine Grove or Big Meadow and chasing a tennis ball in the creek above the old horse stables above Upper Pine Grove

As Mick Jagger said in a song " You don't always get what you want, but you get what you need!"

Anything Goes / MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hope everyone is getting caught up in the Joy of family, and friends over the Holidays. It's a time of reflection and I wanted to share a poem very close to my heart.

CHRISTMAS IN A FAR AWAY LAND

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED A ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND SEE IN THIS HOME WHO DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOMBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THIE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THIERLIVES TOTHESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON AROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE SAY " SANTA DON'T CRY THIS LIFE IS MY CHOISE".

" I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS".

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDNT CONTROL IT AS I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I WEPT FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL, AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD DARK NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOISE SOFT AND PURE, WISPERED "CARRY ON SANTA IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE".

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH AND I KNEW HE WASW RIGHT, " MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT".

this poem was written by a Marine war veteran, I hope you enjoyed it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL THE GREAT PEOPLE WHO READ AND SHARE IN THIS FORUM!
and my Christmas wish is for all these young men and women to retun home safely, and be given a chance to live the American dream they have protected.

Eastern Sierra Forum / WHAT'S GOING ON
« on: November 17, 2013, 07:18:01 PM »
Aside from wshawkins the forum has been dead. Sierraslam, Bstolen how were your recent trips? Tim you haven"t been online in since your apology. What happened to Morning chuckles. Me, I worked in the yard over the weekend and watched our So Cal teams ( UCLA, USC ) win big games, looked to see if Mattingly got his well deserved long term contract with the Dodgers, and now I'm cooking BQ for the family and watching the Lakers. Boring to everyone but me. What's up!
