Great to hear amp.

Just another reason why early in the season and late in the season are the best times to be at the creek......no bugs!

Welcome to the board.

It's been past experience that the vendor will start shutting down campsites based on demand and weather. Its hard saying which ones they'll close and when. Often they'll close the upper loop of East Fork prior to closing the whole camp ground.

Pine Grove and Upper Pine Grove often get shut down earliest, then the upper loop of East Fork and the Meadows campgrounds. They usually work their way down the canyon. But hard saying what their plan is. Some members on this board have contact info of some of the camp hosts and maybe they can find out their current game plan.

Enjoy your trip. I think this is the very best time of the year to go creek'in

Safe travels and tight lines.

And that area right around your cabin is one of the worst in the canyon for seepage and standing water. The worst chigger attack I ever suffered was when staying at Palisades. All the grass that grows around that area is prime for those pesky pest.

I imagine the canyon is full of raging, man eating mosquito's and chiggers about now.

I wonder if it will carry longer into the fall season than normal.

It's unfortunate, but we need the water badly.

I remember when Rock Creek over flowed at/above French Camp around 15 years ago. Sure made a mess of about 500' section of Rock Creek Canyon Road.

They usually don't plow that road, at least I've never been aware of it in many years. I could be wrong.

I can remember many times the road has remained closed at the Pack Station, yet the road was 95% free of snow. Just 1 or 2 deep snow drifts blocking the road. They usually wait for mother nature to melt it off before they open that gate.

Topwater and myself have walked into Mosquito Flats a few years back and the road was wide open with exception of a drift or two.

Hope this helps.

I'd guess that's the northern bridge. The bridge Corey is referencing(southern) has a big waterfall immediately down stream of it. Just guessing.

I saw that yesterday.

Those bridges seemed built rather well to me. No match for mother nature I guess.

There are 2 bridges close together right there. I wonder if it was the northern most or the southern bridge.

Thanks Scout, my curiosity is peaked on this.

I envisioned it would be in between Iris Meadow and Big Meadow Packer.

Of course Mimi is getting news 2nd or 3rd hand. Hmmmm.

13
Yes, please keep us informed Mimi.

I guess it's been longer ago than I thought since I've hiked that area. I don't recall seeing that old beaver dam. Thinking about it more, it's been 10 years or better.

John H's Ohms Law formula is spot on.

Only things I would suggest is to calculate the load you have and have a system capable of at least 125% of that. The other thing I would suggest is run your fridge on propane if that's an option.

I agree with running the generator as little as possible, and not at all after the dinner hour.

Enjoy

Hey Tony.

I just dropped a dime to the Resort.

They are in the process of clearing the road from the Resort to the dock/launch ramp, the lake campgrounds, and other service roads with a tractor. The road to the doc is not yet open, but sounds like it will be soon.

The lake has a long way to go to be iced out. It's still 80% frozen. Their best guess is maybe 1 week, likely 2 weeks before they'll have rental boats available. With the warmer temps they're getting, that could change in a hurry. A little wind would help rid the ice as well.

Sounds like the lake will get it's initial stocking in the next week. Nothing will happen until the road down to the launch is cleared.

They are stocking at the lower campgrounds, Tuff, French, and he believes also at the Meadows.

Hope that helps.

ReserveAmerica is saying East Fork will not open until 6-16-17 due to water issues.

Looks like your choices are French Camp, Big or Iris Meadows.

Last pic I saw of the lake it still was 80% ice, however with the temps between now and your arrival, that could change drastically.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

A heartfelt "Thanks" to all.

Nice fish guys.

Just another opinion:

The Walk In sites at the lake are under whelming.

The other campground is literally just a parking lot. And as retired pointed out has a lot of people walking around and auto traffic noise.

Those sites also have the coldest night time lows in the canyon, particularly in spring and fall.

The only good thing about those sites is it has easy access to the lake. FYI, the lake has different fishing regs then the rest of the canyon as it's in a different county (you can fish all night at the lake if that's your thing).

Imo, the lake offers the worst campsites in the canyon (what LHR said).

imo

I wish I had contact info for you Aquaman.

My back up plan would be to head up the hill to RC.

You're arriving mid week before the main summer rush of "schools out".

I can't imagine you not finding a spot in one of the Meadows or French. Too, I'm thinking the lower loop of East Fork could be open by then.

Go for it, and good luck.

I'm only guessing retired, but that could be due to the vendors plan to man the campgrounds based on weather predictions.

Too soon, of course. But I could see them needing to have a plan on when to mobilize.

If I had to guess, I would think the season will start later than usual this year too. But who knows.

I heard last night that there were monies allocated for maintenance repair and State officials thought it was a waste of money and wanted to spend it on a high speed train. SMH.
