That is not what it appears. The rabbit is a dentint and he is checking a sore rear molar.

Agree with Corey, Coleman bags from Big 5 (watch for sales and print a coupon from their website) are the best for car camping. I have a few weight ones for different times of year. All are the oversized so lots of stretch out room.

Eastern Sierra Trip Reports / Quick Trip
« on: October 08, 2017, 07:08:31 PM »
Made a quick trip from Wednesday until Sunday, not the usual two weeks we love. Also.....because RC was closed for reservations and we hate going up to be shut out of good spots, we reserved and went to Twin Lakes.

Just got home and while it was the Sierras, just feel short handed as we were not at the creek!

Will post more with pics later, time to unpack and ready for the daily work grind tomorrow.

Had original plans to hike into Hiltons Wednesday, two days ago, and come out Sunday. Now glad things changed and was unable to make the trip. Did not want to haul in winter gear yet, its only September! Would have been pretty back there, but more weight for sure to enjoy it.

It will be in 114 again as it probably was a few years back. Happy hour starts about 3:30/4:00pm. Hope to see you all there.

She said about Iris, but wonder if it also affected Big Meadow? Could be the area I am thinking of and it would affect both if it cut loose. Will have to trek that way in a few weeks to see what's goin on.

Could be some big hungry fish in that body of water!!

Are you planning on heading up the road in July to attend the CLUB gathering?

I'm guessing it is the area about 1/8th mile below the Palisade Cabins. I fish the area a few times a year, and it is only spot that makes sense to me. It has been more of a muddy gooey meadow to the left of the creek as you go down. It is a large area, so if its filled up with water, would make quite a mess. Right below, the creek sides rise up in sort of a narrows effect so that would really make the water race down.

20 days until we head up. Starting to wonder how it will play out.......

111 is across from the restrooms. I believe there is a faucet there also, across the road from the site. Many of the faucets do not have hose threads.

Ha Ha Ha, Backpacking-Car Camping-Trailer Camping. Now there is a new one, Wheelbarrow Camping! :lol2:

After spending days in French Camp for Rocktober last year, agree with Retired. Would prefer French over Iris for sure. I think you are smart with reservations as I have gone in the past to find no decent spots in the whole canyon. And that was tent camping. Way harder to find spots to fit a trailer on the get go. Especially up there if it is larger then 24 feet.

With East Fork not open, that will have a major impact as its the biggest camp up there. Pine Grove and Upper Pine will also create more impact also.

No matter, it will be good for you as you will be up there, and I will be at home! :(

Honestly, with the conditions this year, the time you are going I would book a spot in French Camp. While it is lower elevation, it has nice spots nestled in pinion pines. Easy access to Toms Place and good to hit other areas without having to come down canyon. And if it matters to you, cell service is still attainable.

Even if the campgrounds are open, spots might be limited as some could still be covered in snow reducing what is available. I have done the drive to come up empty with no good spots. Not a fun way to start the vacation.

Visible proof of what a hard life it was to live there. I think that beats out the nastiness of the summer!

Eastern Sierra Forum / Re: Parking in the campgrounds
« on: March 04, 2017, 09:49:43 AM »
Not sure if it different for other campgrounds (doubt it as they are run by the same entity). East Fork has overflow parking By the Camp host sites. It is $7 per vehicle per day. Trailers count as one so the trailer and tow vehicle will take up the reservation spot. Also depends on the spot and trailer size, as some will not be able to fit both without the vehicle sticking into the road.

Do you have reservations for a spot? Depending on the trailer size, that time of year will be taking a big risk as spots are packed with people. What even might be available, good chance it will not fit a trailer of any size, or the pad might be at an angle that will not be able to level the trailer. Do not want to sound bad, but it would really stink to haul up there and have no place to park it.
