Eastern Sierra Fishing / Re: First Golden Trout for 2017
« on: August 14, 2017, 01:25:25 PM »
I recognize that lake! Glad it was ice free for you. I hiked up there some years back the first week of August and it was still iced over. Must be nice with fewer people back that way with the water taxi not running. Adds a few miles walking around Saddlebag but less people is always better in the Sierras. Nice work!

Finally getting back up to Rockcreek Tomorrow! Should be nice and cool, especially at night. Hopefully get into a nice Fall bite. The scenery should be outstanding! The last 24 hours before a trip is the longest wait. Good fishin!

50 fish in 2 hours... That's almost a fish every 2 minutes! Not bad. I was in Mammoth for Bluesa as well. Brought 3 rods and never wet a line. Different type trip altogether. Hope I have the same bite when I get back up in late September.

I did over 20 years of opening weekend. I finally got crowded out. I go the weekend after and it's much less crowded.

It's not the pie that bums us out, it's that another tradition has come and gone. I think that's what you've missed.

I guess I'm slowly getting over it. The burgers are really good. I just think if the name of the cafe your taking over is the self proclaimed Pie In The Sky Cafe, you might want to continue baking pies. I know people who would drive home from Tahoe, and drive the 18 miles up and down Rockcreek Road just for a slice of pie. I'll have to bring up a Spice Cake to satisfy my Sierra sweet tooth. The recipe has been in my family for generations! So darn good! See I've moved on already.

The pie making at Rockcreek Lake Resort goes way further back than Sue and Jim King. The pies that Sue made were the recipes of Lila Colby and Dona Rader. In my opinion this takes a piece of resort history and throws in the trash. Baking those pies at the crack of dawn is just too much these days I guess. Oh well, burger, beer and pie at Toms Place now. Sad day in Rockcreek history.

Thank you for the awesome trip! You have seriously inspired me to get back out and experience the the back country. I had zero back pack trips in 2015! I just turned 50, it's time to get in back in shape, and get back out. Thanks again!

Constipation, that's funny! I know I camped at Consultation Lake before doing the Whitney Summit. I think Consultation would be to the right looking out the windows. If anyone gets a chance to fish Consultation, don't pass it by.

30 miles in the back country and had neighbors? Partying neighbors? Crazy! Campgrounds can be party central. Usually a short walk with a backpack and you'll lose the people who are there to to party all night.

I'm finally going to get in a few bag nights this weekend. Zero nights under the stars so far this year. Heading to Saddlebag Lake tomorrow thru Sunday, then a night at the creek. I hear Saddlebag resort closed yesterday, so no water/boat taxi. NBD, The walk around the lake is not too bad. I'll be trying to slam on Saturday. Kinda fun to leave camp early with a goal in mind. Praying for smokeless skies, and little wind. should be good one. good fishin!!
