Also, while visiting Manzanar, went to see the ponds and reservoirs used for water storage.  They are not on any tour guide furnished by the Parks system.  Its in back of the interment camp about 5-6 miles on a dirt road (High clearance vehicles only).  This reservoir held up to 900,000 gal of water for daily use for Manzanar internment camp.

Image 18 of 39, a cemetery with a stone monument made by an internee at Manzanar.  Just visited here.  Noticed the thundershowers activity that chased me down the hill.  Crazy weather this summer in the Eastern Sierra!

Still have not seen another person(s) on the trail.  Funny what just a couple of inches will scare folks away.  Photo below shows where my dog found a snow patch and just had a blast rolling around and sliding down towards the lake. :dogrun:

Great trip Fishdad!  Great Dad too for taking your son along on this backpacking trip.  Hearing a lot of folks that this year the bite seems to be off just about everywhere so don’t feel bad.  It’s always been “golden” for me up there.  Would have been nice to see a photo of that hybrid.  Thanks for the report. :fishing3:

Sounds like you had a great trip.  I was up there earlier this season and fishing so so at the lake for me too.  Did much better in the back-country or along the creek.  Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your son.  Hopefully he’ll carry on the family tradition for the next generation.

Made it to the lake.  Lake is still frozen but not surprising this early in the season at this elevation.

My dogs are part of my family, so usually have one or more on my trips.  This was the first time seeing snow for this dog.  He was hesitant at first then quickly warmed up to what fun snow can be!

I recommend not to add split rings to Panther Martins as it will give it an unnatural spinning action.   I changed out my 1/16oz Panther Martins treble hooks for single hooks some years back.  I replaced the trebles with Gamakatsu single hooks (LS-3423F) which is a vertical ring-eye which I have had great success for hook-setting trout.  For example, for the 1/16oz lure, I use size 2 hook.  It’s important to have the right type of hook and correct size for the type of lure you’re fishing with.  I have not noticed any difference in hookups compared to trebles since I made the switch.  Best of luck!
