Thanks wshawkins!

Heuschele - I'm not sure about the road to laurel lakes, but the road to Rock Creek was just impassable. I didn't see any closed signs or barricades. The road was just snow covered with warning markers in front of the snow. A couple of people just parked and walked to the lake.

wshawkins - Yeah, I definitely see the potential to put up good numbers at Hot Creek. I tried a couple dry flies and various nymphs and I wasn't getting anything. I think it might have just been a matter of time. I think i was just narrowing in on what they wanted and then had to leave. I cant wait to get back out there and redeem myself though.

Hey guys and gals! I went up to the Bishop area this past weekend and wanted to share a few things with you. It was more of a family trip than a full fishing trip, but i still managed to get some good fishing in. We arrived in bishop saturday around noon. After checking into our hotel we shot over to lower owens off chalk bluff road. I fished there for about 3 hours and landed 3 nice browns in the 10-12 inches range.

Sunday we went up the hill to upper owens. I landed 2 decent rainbows in about 2 hours and I had a few missed fished.

We also shot over to hot creek for about an hour. I didn't catch anything, but i had 4 nice bites working a streamer just before leaving.

We then checked out mcgee creek. The creek was low and you can see there wasn't much snow up there. No fish.

Now you can't go up there without stopping by Rock Creek!!! We tried to drive all the way to the lake, but the little snow that was there managed to close the road right at east fork. We just messed with the snow there and down at palisades.

Sunday morning I hit the power plant hard for about 3 hours before shooting back to checkout. This was definitely the hottest fishing! It took an hour for me to find what they wanted and then it was bite after bite. I ended up landing 5 trout including a nice 1lb 10 oz rainbow. I had alot of bites though!

Overall, it was a perfect weekend trip.

Didn’t know Hot Creek held any carp!  I only caught Rainbow and Brown trout myself.  Using a “dry” fly is the secret to some good fishing at Hot Creek. :fishing4:

I know, I couldn't believe it either! There was a giant group of them in the blocked off area where the water is really warm. They were all very small. I threw my rapala out there and they all fought over it. My buddy also caught a small carp at upper owens river a few years back, just north of the benton crossing bridge. We couldn't believe it, but I guess it made its way down from hot creek. I might have a picture of his that I can post. Thanks for the tip on the dry fly, I hope to fish hot creek more this year.

Hot Creek - Not the greatest fishing in the hot water, but I did catch a couple of small carp.

I'm looking forward to a good game, but I think the Broncos will take the win. Gotta love the good food and commercials though.

Awesome memories. I haven't seen it myself, but hopefully it is still there.

Haha! It was definitely a hike I'll never forget. I did this on my second trip in late august. I was hoping to fish my way up, but there wasn't too much left of the smaller lakes. Great scenery though. I was with my brother and we were almost dead by the time we got back to RCL. We still got some pie on the way out though.

Does anyone know the actual distance from the Tamarack trailhead at RCL to Tamarack lakes? One guy told me it was 3 miles, but it seemed way longer. I also had all of my gear on, including my waders, so that might have made it seem longer. It almost looks like 5ish on google maps, not factoring in twist and turns.

I finally got my project boat back together, so I took it out to mission bay for a test drive. It still needs a few cosmetic fixes, but it runs great.

On the bay today

I got it from Pie in the Sky! This is the new bbq sauce they are using on their bbq bacon burgers...mmmmm. I was talking to them about it last June and it wasn't bottled yet, but when I went back in august it was bottled. I couldn't help but grab one!

Wow! That was great. I wish I could have seen the town of little lake. Unfortunately, I was born in 1990. Thanks for the history though wshawkins. Even though I didn't know the town, I still get that same feeling when I see the Eastern Sierra sign.

My favorite dry fly is the Elk Hair Caddis and favorite wet fly is a pheasant tail nymph. Those two flies tear it up in the sierras! I use them hear in San Diego also for trout, bluegill, and carp. One time I even got a largemouth bass on the pheasant tail.
