Eastern Sierra Fishing / Mammoth lakes area fishing report
« on: October 06, 2018, 09:45:24 PM »
Just returned from 7 days of fishing in the Mammoth lake area and here is my report, trolling with lead line and every lure I own for 5 hours each lake ( Convict & June ) and only 1 Rainbow. Silver lake=0, Rush Creek=0, Lake Mary=0, lake George=few small Rainbows, Saddlebag Lake=0 ( low water level ) Lundy Lake=0. Now for the good news, Rock creek=Rainbows and Brooke’s, Lee Vining Creek= too many to count, TJ Lake=Rainbows, McCloud Lake=Browns, In let to Lundy=Browns and Rainbows. I used night crawlers only and released all that was caught. So as you can see streams and back country lakes produced the most fish. Hope this info can help you plan your next trip, Ray.

Ironically the chamber of commerce for Bishop was having a fishing derby with tagged fish at Sabrina, North lake, South lake and intake 2, but out of the almost 25 fish I caught not one was tagged.

Eastern Sierra Fishing / Last day of the fishing season

Last Tuesday night made the decision to make the 4 hour drive to Bishop and fish the last day of the season at south lake. Left Home at 2:00AM arriving at south lake at sunrise. It was windy with snow flurries on and off, but the fishing was GREAT. Never saw another fisherman the entire time while fishing near the boat ramp. After a few hours of catching and releasing I drove up to north lake area and fished the creeks and caught and released a few brooks then made it to Sabrina and caught one more before it got dark. Great way to end the season, come on 2018!

WOW was up there yesterday fishing and heard nothing about it ant ther was a lot of campers down stream, hope everyone is safe!

Aquaman, was planning on going back to Rock Creeklater this week but we did so good today at Convict lake we may not make it back. We have fished most the lakes on the June lake loop and it's crazy how much water all the lakes have in them, and the rivers are all flowing so hard and fast it's dangerous to be near them. They are helicoptering steel beams to the dam at Gem lake to help support it due to the amount of water behind it. Good luck with the ice bergs and happy fishing, Ray.

As of this morning the lake was over 50% thawed out and all shorelines were ice free, the ice does move around with the wind. Not all the campgrounds are open and the river is flowing like I have never seen it before. The outlet tube that feeds the river is at the top and the over flow tubes are flowing also. The water level is so high that picnic tables are in the water. The boat ramp is cleared of snow and the girls at the store said the lake was stocked a few days ago. Hope this helps, Ray.

The gate is still locked just past the bathrooms for driving  access to the lake but the road all the way in is snow free. The lake is over 50% thawed out and the water level is very high with lots of picnic tables in the lake water. Had lunch at the store and the gals there said they don't know when it will be open but to check face book for updates. The road to mosquito flats is open to the packing station only and still lots of snow up there. Hope this helps with your plans, Ray.

Going up tomorrow at sun rise to fish , fill you later in the day, Ray.

I'm up in the area now fishing , don't know what day we are going to fish Rock Creek lake but when we do I will let you know what I find out. As of last week the road was not open, Ray.

Clint, sent you a PM, still having a problem downloading the pics, Ray

I was at rock Creek today and they're still no access to that side of the lake, the lake is still 90% covered in snow and they have not plowed the road from the store to the lake , I hope this helps, Ray.

Clint, just got back from a weeks fishing and camping on the Owens river. Went up to Rock Creek lake yesterday and even got in an hour of fishing and caught and released 2 fish. The lake is still covered in snow I would say at least 90%. From Big Meadows camp ground to the lake are still closed along with the store. The road is completely plowed to the store but the road to the lake from the store is not so you have to track over snow to get to the lake, I have some pictures to show but every time I go to send them it tells me the file is too big ( any suggestions? ) Ray.
