Rainbow and pink are always good,  and even though I don't bait fish much,  it does seem that power bait has enough scent on it's own...

Someone on the facebook rock creek lake section posted that Francis,  Kenneth,  and Dorothy were all full,  posted pics of them too

If there is still snow up around Mosquito flats,  that means the Davis/Hilton Lakes trail head is gonna buried as well.  A good hike now might be from East Fork up to the Lodge,  maybe further up along side the pond too.  No creek crossings involved

I bet Roy will weigh in here soon

Yeah Mimi said it was above Iris so it aint right below Palisade.  I haven't been through that area in many years but I do know it gets pretty thick in there so there could be some beaver dams many of us have never seen...

Just as we did last year,  Salim and I took a quick trip up the McGee and hammered the big cutts.  Salim secured the services of local guide Joe Contaldi once again this year and we got trout up to about 27 inches....

In the afternoon we took a ride up Rock creek,  the water was roaring everywhere,  but we were told the true heavy runoff had not even begun!  With this weeks warm weather that's bound to change!  FYI,  don't be afraid to try the saturday evening prime rib special at Tom's

8
The water is high and cold,  without a doubt the worst conditions for fly fishing.  I do know they've been getting the trout on bait down in Tuffs camp  :fishing3:

9
I was up there sunday and most of the lake area is covered in snow...and if it wasn't,  you are picking the worst time to arrive anyway,  4 pm on a friday lol.  I know,  work comes first,  but that's still a tough time.   The desert,  I mean,  French camp,  might be a better option  :lol2:

Will post some pics and video soon.  Had a great trip,  ate Prime rib at Tom's,  Pastrami at Schatts,  caught huge Cutthroats and bows' on Lower Mcgee.  Went up to the lake,  it was mostly still frozen,  much of the road around the lake is covered in snow.  The creek was really roaring,  but I was told it will prolly be even higher this week as we should have a pattern of warm days for a while.  More on this soon,  stand by...

Another neat area is up Tioga Pass by the south fork of Lee Vining creek.  Its a couple of miles before you get to Yosemite.  You have Ellery and Tioga lake plus Saddlebag just a couple of miles away,  plus much of the stream gets stocked right there where Saddlebag creek joins Lee Vining creek near the campground.  Ya got a choice of lakes and streams and rainbows and brookies... It's up pretty high so it's cold at night and the water will be pretty high this year,  but it's worth a look  :fishing3:

I've been drinking water coming out of that pipe for years!  If I could drink that water all the time I'd prolly never drink anything else!  So refreshing!

Paul,  I'm thinking that flood at French Camp could have been,   I'm saying could, have been, the big summer monsoon in 2003 that naturally rained all over the area that had just burned across the road from the camp.  I know it did flow into the camp and even flooded some of the bathrooms...

Believe it or not,  I have seen counts of only 50-70% of normal snowpack so far this winter,  but this should help a whole lot...http://mammothweather.com/

Eastern Sierra Forum / Another fire!
« on: September 18, 2016, 11:12:49 PM »
This one started near Owens River road north of Mammoth.  Big Springs campground along with some other nearby areas have been evacuated.  Over 4500 acres have burned.  At least some of the cabins on the Alpers ranch have burned.  We'll have to see what kind of update they have in the morning...

Another great trip is in the books!  Much smaller gathering this year due to several club members being under the weather,  nevertheless,  the stream was flowing,  much better than the last several years,  the fish were biting,  and the food and company was good!

That's off the I-5,  Todd,  not the one in Nevada lol.  For those of us that fish places outside the sierras :)
