Eastern Sierra Forum / Re: Horrible news for 2015 fish stocking...

Yeah I wonder too Bob.  I hope this thread doesn't get too political or we'll have to nuke it,  but either way,  I wonder about the license money too.  We need a group like the NRA,  some really tough mofos who will look out for our interests.  Not sure if this group is the answer,  but I will start following them to see what happens:

Eastern Sierra Forum / Some snow could be on the way, however...

This storm coming into the Northern section of Ca is rather warm,  mostly with rain.  That is not a terrible thing,  but it might not do much for the snowpack.  It is still better than January,   when San Francisco,  for the first time in 165 years of record keeping,  did not record one drop of rain for the entire month.  Plenty of rain seems to be headed there now,  and the predictions are for a foot of snow at Mammoth Mountain,  with maybe another foot or two at the highest elevations as the storms sags a bit south.  Then...another week or two of dry weather...ewww...

Right on Big Ed!

Eastern Sierra Forum / Re: Campgrounds

There are several campgrounds in the canyon that are first come first serve,  so that is prolly why you don't see anything about them on reserveusa.  As long as you are not looking for an actual group campground,  you will probably find something in mid may,  unless Noah unleashes something here in a hurry...

Corey having a campfire with nobody else around  :lol2: :lol2:  As far as snow is concerned,  latest forecast I saw,  from the Mammoth Mountain Snowman on facebook,  is that,  if the current pattern holds,  we could get 3-5 feet

Eastern Sierra Forum / Re: DWP new plan for Owens Lake.
« on: November 16, 2014, 12:01:37 PM »
Roy,  I think at a proper flow,  it would take many years to fill the lake.  The lake can't just be flooded.  Not that dwp would care about the river ecosystem,  but I think I remember a lot of dead fish when parts of the lower river were rewatered,  prolly due to too much mud and sediment and oxygen issues that came with too much water at one time.

Eastern Sierra Trip Reports / Kamikazi time for Salim and Topwater again!
« on: October 07, 2014, 10:18:40 PM »
Well,  had to make one more trip up for pie and fish catching!  Did not mention ahead of time that we were going,  didn't want other folks to change plans,  and you know who you are :lol2: :lol2: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:!  So,  Salim and I left Sylmar about 7 am and hit the pie shop around 11:30,  and were full of shock and awe that cheddar pear had just sold out!  We went ahead and ordered several other slices of pie,  and just as we were paying a very tired looking McGee dude showed up.  He'll have to tell you about his lack of sleep over at McGee creek due to a hungry Yogi feeding a bit too close to his campsite  :tent:  Either way,  we scarfed down the pie,  then headed on up to the flats and hiked up a bit to one of Salim's favorite spots,  where the three of us proceeded to catch several dozen brook trout between the three of us.  I also got a small brown and rainbow,  just missing the grand slam.  The weather was perfect,  a bit chilly in the shade,  with a fresh dusting of snow on the mountains and incredible colors in the aspens.  The raw fall beauty of the area was just amazing.  We headed home about 5 pm,  and stopped by the pizza factory in Lone Pine,  where they once again messed up my order,  but they finally got us our pizza,  and it was freeee!!  All in all,  it was a nice trip as usual,  great fishing,  pie,'s all good!

Disclaimer...this brook trout was BARELY in the grass for a couple of seconds for a pic,  then went right back in the water  :fishing3:

Eastern Sierra Forum / Re: Rock Creek Lake "Walk-in" Sites
« on: September 08, 2014, 11:44:18 PM »
Ha ha I got all you guys beat,  I grew up in Blythe,  anytime I got to the Sierras,  or L.A. when there was Marine layer,  I felt I was going to freeze.  I have been up at East Fork in July when it barely got below 50 degrees at night.  I have also been up there in July when the lows hit Roy said,  prepare for it all!

Eastern Sierra Forum / Re: Rock Creek Lake "Walk-in" Sites
« on: September 08, 2014, 10:19:20 AM » might be a good starting spot,  but as far as I know,  the closest place it would be showing weather would be for Mammoth.  Someone else mentioned a better site on the Rock creek lake section of facebook,  maybe they will chime in here.  Like someone else said,  though,  if you are really that worried about night time temps,  might wanna stay at French or somewhere else.  It's the Sierras,  prepare for anything

Pie...after the hike?  Well,  it's either an early morning hike,  or they are buying the pie before the hike and eating it after,  cuz they are not gonna be able to buy after the hike!  There won't be any left!
