Hello all!  Im new to the forum but not new to the fishing around here. I'm from Mammoth Lakes and spend most of my free time chasing gold.  Just trying to zero in this pass,  can someone tell me if this is the red or the purple dot on the attachment?

Still have not seen another person(s) on the trail.  Funny what just a couple of inches will scare folks away.  Photo below shows where my dog found a snow patch and just had a blast rolling around and sliding down towards the lake. :dogrun:

There are a lot of factors involved in DFG stocking county wide, but they're doing their best. We (the Fisheries Commission) finally convinced the powers that be in Sacramento that there was no reason to plant triploid (sterile) trout in Inyo/Mono waters, so they are in the process of switching the Fish Springs Hatchery (Big Pine) over to diploid (non-sterile) fish...they also had a significant fish die-off in the Spring, due to DWP problems...I'm not necessarily defending them, just letting you know what I know.
They use the same stocking truck to plant the creek and the lake...they only stock the creek in designated spots in the campgrounds, they have a map that someone made years ago, and can't deviate from that...believe me, I've tried to get them to change things, but they won't. They start at Tuff Camp, hit all the campgrounds up the canyon, then empty what's left in the truck into the lake at the boat docks.
East fork only gets stocked in a few places, behind Site # 111, maybe a few by Site 121, some by site 126....the "better" pools, in their minds. Tuff Camp get a few nets full, French camp gets hit in one spot only, Big and Iris get a couple of nets each, Pine Grove gets a couple of nets off of each bridge, nothing in between...and that's it for the creek.
I agree that they could do more, I can remember when they stocked every other day, and stocked lots more fish...this was a long time ago, I doubt that they'll ever go back to it.
No, I'm not judging you, or anyone else, I enjoy the input, so I can relay things to DFG....if it was easy, they'd call it "catching"....

I'm certainly interested in your experienced assessment.  I still believe something has changed in the last 2 years.
"if they stock the Lake, they've stocked the creek on the way up the hill."
Why do you say that?
If they're in a hurry or taking a shortcut, why wouldn't they bypass stocking the creek?  Stocking the lake will ultimately stock the creek.  More or less.
I'd guess you think this is the bitching of someone who can't fish well.  I'm doing ok on the browns, the (should be) easier to catch rainbows just aren't there.  I'm wading the willows at East Fork at first light and the pools there used to  collect stockers like no other.  Rock Creek just doesn't have that much calm water for stockers to congregate in.
Unfortunately for me, I only have a couple of weeks a year to enjoy the area, so my expertise is not equal to yours.  I'm just trying to gather information to maximize my vacation.

I'm on the Mono County Fisheries Commission, in direct contact with DFW Biologists, Wardens, and pretty much everyone else involved with stocking of trout. I talked with Jim King , owner of Rock Creek Lakes Resort, also a Commissioner, yesterday, he watches the weekly stocking up there....if they stock the Lake, they've stocked the creek on the way up the hill.
DFW hasn't stocked anywhere but the boat dock cove for quite a while (years). I worked at the Resort in the mid 80's, have helped with stocking in the early 2000's, have worked with the private hatchery that supplies the trophy trout, they all stock at the docks...
I trust my sources, and my experience...with respect

The last 2 years have been different from the previous 10+ years with regard to stocking the creek.  I was told the CFG are only stocking at the boat dock  at the lake.  Not multiple places at the lake and not at the creek.  This is consistent with what my eyes tell me.  Unless you personally saw the creek stocking, I'm going to doubt your source.  With respect.
