Kauai – Hawaii

Na Pali Coast

Our group saw Na Pali Coast from rented Kayaks.  Go early before the Trade Winds kick-up as the ocean can get rough later in the afternoon.

Pod of Spinner Dolphins were swimming next to us most of the way there.

Na Pali Coast

Na Pali Coast stretches fifteen miles along the north-west coast of Kauai between Ke`e Beach in Haena State Park to Polihale State Park in Mana.  Na Pali is not accessible with a car, you either have to walk in (covered that), ride a boat (or Kayak) or helicopter over it.

Whatever way you see it, this rugged coast will leave you breathless as you gaze upon the pali (high cliffs) that  rise as much as 4,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean,  sea caves, lush green valleys and cascading waterfalls that fall to the shores from thousands of feet above.

Back to Ke’e Beach to catch a dazzling sunset!

Many more great trails to discover in Kauai.  Couple that I think are unique is the Waimea Canyon Trail and Pihea & Alakai Swamp Trail.  Waimea Canyon Trail goes through a rain forest then to the “Little Grand Canyon” and the Pihea & Alakai Swamp Trail goes through a swamp hiking on a boardwalk.

Kalalau Trail

Kauai has some of the best hikes in the state of Hawaii.  At the end of the road heading north on Kuhio Hwy in Haena State Park are Ke’e Beach and the start of the Kalalau Trail.  Ke’e beach is one of the most spectacular beaches in Kauai with views of the Napali Coast.  My goal was to hike to Hanakapiai Beach and see some waterfalls in this area.

Looking down on Ke’e Beach at the start of the Kalalau Trail.  Popular beach to swim and snorkel

Kalalau Trail.  Beautiful views of Napali Cliffs from the trail

That North Shore photo is fantastic! We'll be over that way in October.
