Parchers Resort Bishop Creek - Help Wanted
« on: April 07, 2015, 01:25:02 PM »
Howdy folks....

I made a post last year hoping to spread the word about some job openings at my resort and wouldn't you know it, somebody here emailed a friend in Tennessee about it and I ended up with the most avid hiking and fishing crew I've ever had. Some of the crew went over the 200 mile mark on the hiking trails, climbed Whitney (one of them twice), caught tons of the 4 major species of Trout, most of them on the fly, and basically had the best summer of their lives, all while providing our guests with a great overall experience. I realize that hitting the lottery twice is extremely unlikely but what the heck, this community has always had the kinds of folks who know folks that love the same things we all love...namely the Eastern Sierra, hiking, fishing and all kinds of outdoorsy stuff.

Anyhow - I have at least one or two spots for summer workers. The work involved is not glamorous but it's hard to beat the Eastern Sierra as your backyard in the summertime and fall.  Daily work includes thorough cleaning of the rental cabins (complete with toilet scrubbing, bed making, dusting - the works), dish washing in the cafe, plant watering, rock moving, snow shoveling (maybe), store stocking, reservation making, trash disposing (including stinky fish guts), cashiering, general customer service and whatever else we need done on any given day. I'm all stocked up on applications from people who want to be "the maintenance guy", "the chef", the "manager" or just sit around and tell people how to fish all day - none of whom want to make beds or do the dirty work for 6 to 8 hours a day - so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't the spot for you. I am the maintenance guy, cook, IT guy, marketing guy, manager and resident fishing guide among other things so those jobs are already filled...having said that, being handy, good in the kitchen, and/or loaded with hiking or fishing experience is certainly valuable stuff to bring to the table.

All applicants must be fluent in English, drug free, be able to lift 50lbs, and have references. Previous customer service experience, phone skills and computer skills including MS Office a plus.
Our best employees over the years have been college kids or young people just out of college who have a real passion for the outdoors -  whether that be hiking, fishing, backpacking, rock climbing, photography or all of those things. Having said that, age is not a major factor...being physically able to do the work and having a willingness to do whatever, whenever, and an appreciation for the Sierras is huge. Our customers love people who are stoked to be here and you can't fake that....so it should be no surprise that we only hire people who are stoked on the Sierras.

We do have onsite employee housing for the right applicants.

Interested parties can submit their resumes via email to reservations@parchersresort.net with the subject line "2015 Employment" and send to my attention. If you or someone you know might be a good fit for this kind of work, send them our way. We already have our  "summer only" help for the year, but we do have a few spots for people looking to work May 1 - Nov 1. For the right person, this is about as good as it gets when it comes to seasonal work.

I've already decided that if I can put the right crew together....I can finish the research for my 2nd book this year...hooray!

Sierrally,
Jared Smith

I would love a job like that, but I would be sneaking off every other day going fishing in the backcountry.  Too much temptation for me.   :hiking2: :fishing3:

I was up at your resort last August for a few days and had a great time.  Excellent fishing trip too!  The staff was really helpful and knew the Bishop Creek Canyon area very well.  When I asked for recommendations for fly’s to use such as at Treasure Lakes, the girl at the office said she was there couple of days ago and caught them on this fly, etc.!   Just nice when the person giving out advise has been there recently and knows what working.  No guarantees she said but her advice turned out to be right on! :twothumbs:

Had such a good time last year I decided to come up again this year and hopping to hike and fish different lakes and hope to get good results again.  Sure hope you have the same cook as last year; she makes a mean breakfast, especially the weekend buffet breakfast!  Yum!

Look forward to your second book.  I took your first book up with last year and it served me well!  Hope you find a stellar crew this year Smitty.  Cheers.

So very glad to hear that you had a great experience up here. I expect you'll have a similar one this year.
