5-10 thru 5-13
« on: May 20, 2012, 07:07:03 PM »
Left Riverside late Thursday afternoon and arrived at RCL around 10 pm, setup camp and hit the bag.

Friday morning drove up to Virginia lakes, Big Virginia still had a lot of ice, but Little Virginia was freshly thawed. Pretty slow first hour or so and decided to move to another spot, then it was game on. Most of the fish were small stockers but still fun. C & R about 15 + fish mostly on orange PWs, a few on a gold and red spinner and a couple on gulp pinched NCs. Kept 2 small gut hooked fish for dinner. There was 3 other shore fisherman and 1 float tuber.

Stopped at Lundy on way back to French camp, caught a nice wild bow right away. C & R about 8-10 fish and Kept 3 nice ones to complete my limit. Most where caught on orange power worms again and Pinched NCs. There were 2 other people fishing Lundy and later I found out it was Dusty and Miki.

Saturday morning drove up to the loop and the Walker lake trailhead, right where the trail meets the lake decided to fish for a while before I started my hike up Bloody canyon. Still had an orange PW on my rod and cast it out, bam fish on! Fish is peeling line and leaping out of the water. Thought I had a 3lb + fish, reeled him in and it was a real nice wild bow, nice way to start the day. Fished for about 30 min, but no more bites.

9am time to get going up the hill. This was a pretty hard hike and I thought about giving up a couple of times, but I pushed on. The scenery and the views of Walker and Mono lakes were just breathtaking. The roar of Walker creek seemed to be calling out to me to keep going. I reached Sardine lake at about noon and was completely exhausted. After catching my breath I fished for about 15-20 min, but no luck. No worries, the experience and the beauty of the area were well worth it.

2pm and decided to wet a line. I hadnít caught anything on a TB, so I broke out the go to gold and cast it out, bam fish on! Reeled in a nice fat holdover rainbow, fished for about an hour with no more luck.  Man that end of the day 1 mile straight uphill hike out of Walker lake was killer!12:30pm time to head back down to Walker lake, got to the shoreline around

Sunday morning drove up to Rock creek lake to see the sunrise and fish a little before heading home. Fish where busting the surface everywhere. Once again the orange PW and pinched NCs did the trick. C & R about 7-8 fish and kept 3 to take home. Landed my biggest fish of the trip, a nice 16-17 incher. Packed up camp and headed towards Bishop, gassed up at the casino and fueled up at Jacks.

Made it home in time to celebrate Mothers Day!
gone fishn, hope to be catchn soon !

Looks and sounds like a great trip. I'm surprised at how little snow there is up high. It sure seems to be melting out fast.

bstolton, looks like a good trip.  Big Virginia Lake is ice free and is now fishable, you just missed it.  Hike up to Sardine is tough as you know.  Caught some nice size Brooks in there a few years ago!  Nice to be able to take your dog along on these trips.  Good report!

Great report Bill.

Just curious as to how JoJo does with all the hiking on the rocks, any cut pads?
Life without music, laughter, and an Eastern Slope BBQ would be a mistake.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Wshawkins, my buddy and I fished the last bit of open water at Big Virginia last year right before season end in Nov, Little Virginia was frozen over. There was some open water at BV this time, but seemed appropriate to fish LV.

Playingmenace, JoJo is well seasoned, she jogs on pavement about 10 miles a week. She was kind enough to stop and wait for me numerous times
She is an awesome dog,and never seems to tire. She used to do dock jumping competitions and even that barely wore her out.
gone fishn, hope to be catchn soon !

Very very nice! Was this trip with just you and the dog? I want to do some solo trips this season. I really seem to soak it all in when I'm by myself. Great pictures! thanks for the post. good fishin!

Yea my buddy wasn't able to go so JoJo and I made the best of it, which allowed me to get in some hiking. Solo trip is definitely a different experience then going with family or friends. Like anything each has its pros and cons.
