Another fire!
« on: September 18, 2016, 11:12:49 PM »
This one started near Owens River road north of Mammoth.  Big Springs campground along with some other nearby areas have been evacuated.  Over 4500 acres have burned.  At least some of the cabins on the Alpers ranch have burned.  We'll have to see what kind of update they have in the morning...
Once I arrive at Tom's Place...well,  you know...nothing else matters...

Being up there last week, things are really dry everywhere. Sadly, until rains come, I doubt this will be the last incident.
Pack it in, Pack it out...or have a Wrangler do it for you.

Yesterday Long Valley was so full of smoke I couldn't see Crowley or the Glass Mts. from my backyard. Today is a lot better, actually pretty clear, and by looking up that way, there are no columns of smoke, just haze. Maybe they got a handle on it? All I hear or read are rumors of where it was and what was affected, so I have no real information. As soon as they allow traffic up there again, I'll drive up to look for myself. It just looks a whole lot better than it did, let's hope for the best.

I was just camping at Big Springs a month ago, and the Clark Fire broke out north of me.  This one looks a lot closer to the campground itself.  Please let us know what you see if you travel up there.

Drove through there from Reno Sunday. Smoke was so bad couldn't see much across Mono Lake. Not too bad at a stop in Mammoth and was mild in Bishop this morning.
The E.S. is where I come to get back to sanity and to the real me.

Came from Graeagle through Reno to Lone Pine yesterday. Saw a lot of haze, didn't know about the fire.
