1.7 miles into the Lundy Canyon hike is Middle Mills Creek Falls.  Great place for a picnic.

Looking back at the fall color as I start my hike up to Upper Falls and 20 Lakes Basin

Lundy is an amazing canyon and the creek that flows down from Lundy Lake is full of wild trout....Goldens if you know where to look.  Next year we're taking three days up the trail to really explore the water.

The road up is quite spectacular but can be dangerous.  We went up a week after the new ER Doc from Mammoth died at one of the last three point turns.  Definitely will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Most of the trout caught by anglers in the Eastern Sierra are hatchery raised fish.  While catching trout of any kind is great, there is something really special about fishing for wild trout in their natural habitats. :fishing3:

Donít see many hikers past this point for obvious reasons.  Picking up some elevation through the scree @ 2.2 miles into the hike.

Beautiful but I wouldn't want to try and hike those sharp rocks. Looks a bit to steep.

Yeah itís a very steep hike at this point and the trail disappears at times as landslides and avalanches over the years have taken their toll.  Elevation gain is serious now with over 1,100í of it in the last 0.8 miles (some of it on all fours).  So no, I would not recommend this park of the hike to most people but as once said so eloquently on this Board, live vigorously through the photos!!!

More elevation gained as I look back down the canyon.

Always important to respect one's limitations.  Probably a wise choice.

Probably a rare photo of the Upper LC Falls considering the trail, well, non-trail to get there.  I see in one photo where the trail disappears into the avalanche scree.  All fours, geez!

Looking down the steep canyon I'm climbing, the Upper Falls would be to my left.

Lake Helen and 20 Lakes Basin - The end of the Lundy Canyon Trail.  Somewhat surprised there still is snow here but Lake Helen is over 10,000 feet elevation. Here you could continue your hike and take the 20 lakes loop trail to Saddlebag Lake.

Next I'm hiking on the Lake Canyon Trail to Oneida Lake and the May Lundy Mine.  Fall colors were impressive all the way to the mine and lakes......
