meanwhile, back in Bodie..
« on: March 15, 2017, 01:16:00 PM »

ok, when I think of my trips to Bodie, I think hot, dry, take sunscreen and water.. seek out shade by the buildings...  I have never been there in the winter.   but this winter, I have saved several photos of Bodie that have been taken by the staff there ... and here is a whole new look at Bodie:

and taken from the air:

Wow, that is amazing. How have those buildings stood so long?

Visible proof of what a hard life it was to live there. I think that beats out the nastiness of the summer!

Wow, incredible images.
Life without music, laughter, and an Eastern Slope BBQ would be a mistake.

Beautiful pictures!! I agree that it gives at least a little bit of an idea what the winters were like for those early mine workers.

these were all taken during jan and feb..  and the first one posted may have been in early march

they just blew my mind with every new one I saw!   the maintenance man Eric is living out there this winter... 'Super Eric' and he is the photographer.

there is still no running water out there..they had to hault all earthquake inspections and repairs when the snow hit.

Terri G did say one thing I hadn't thought of tho.. the snow piled up against the buildings protects them from the insane winds that go thru there in the winter...

can you imagine the silence out there?   talk about being a lonely place!

You should have seen it in 1951 with nothing but rickety old buildings and tumbleweeds. No signs, no people- talk about a ghost town.

well Bodie is somewhat open!

the main road into town off of 395 will open tomorrow... but the park is open now.  (you can drive to within a mile of town via the cottonwood canyon road, and hike down from there)

but be advised..... THERE IS NO PUBLIC WATER AVAILABLE!     which also means the flush toilets are not working.  tho the park has brought in porta poitties for everyones use.   there are also some areas that will be taped / fenced off for public safety.    (all due to the earthquake damage from dec)   so bring drinking water!

so excited..   lil grey is telling me... walker burger is open, bodie is open...  road trip???? :)
