Hey Hillbasher,

I was told the snow is compacted, so you can hike on it. Is that incorrect?
Also, where do you rent them? Nothing here in LA.

Thanks for your suggestion!

The MSR Lighting Ascents are the best money can buy. Spendy, but completely worth it.

Any update on the road clearing effort?
How far are we going to have to snow shoe to get out on the lake?
Smokey's watching you!

Two weeks ago the snow was crusted enough to walk on....but I'm sure those conditions have changed. They were busy plowing the road from East Fork which is only three miles from the lake so I have to imagine they've gotten pretty close. Even if it's not completely  open for cars I would think it should be open enough to walk. Here are some pictures of my hike.

Well REI Arcadia and the one in Tustin both rent them but if you can get them in Bishop for $12 a day, that sounds like your best deal.

Clint -

How was East Fork looking? Still buried under a ton of snow? Trying to figure out if our Memorial Day Weekend is actually happening this year.

There's still plenty of snow at East Fork. No where near the amount when I was up there 2 weeks ago, but still lots of it. However it seems to be disappearing fast. I wouldn't count Memorial Day out! That's almost a month away. I'd be willing to bet that there will be no snow at all by then.

I'll take that bet ... I bet the campground is open but I also bet there will be snow on the ground  :cold: :camping:  we stayed at Eastfork over Memorial day 5 years ago , when we arrived on Friday it was sunny but there was snow still on the ground . At 11:00 that night it started to snow and snow and snow by morning it was a winter wonderland   Did I mention all those tent campers on Friday ,LOTS and Saturday morning they all came out of their tents excited with the snow but by 10:00 they had all packed up and gone home .There were literally my husband and I ,my brother in law and his wife and the hosts the rest of the campground was empty ... it was amazing

Oh bummer!!! I forgot. I'm so disappointed.
Nothing like taking a break from the lake in the middle of the day, walking over to the lodge for a nice slice ala mode.  I'm gonna miss Jim & Sue!!!

They are still there. The cobbler is really good and the BBQ sauce is to die for . Not sure if they are doing it this year but last summer they had a Happy hour    very cool

I remember now. I was there last summer (every year!). We did have the cobbler. It was good but I miss tradition---coconut cream or mixed berry a la mode at noon, after 6 hours on the lake.

Perhaps they'll surprise us every once in a while with a pie or two once a year.

Mine was pecan chocolate chip or mudd pie  :pie: :pie:  and yes I miss it too. My daughter was devastated when she found out it was her favorite part of going camping . :camping:

Ya, but it won't last. Like I said earlier, I was amazed at the snow level that 2 weeks made from the 1st trip to my last trip a few weeks ago.
I'll still hang on to my bet. I'm going to enjoy that cobbler!!!

I was wondering when I'd hear back from you :)

So basically what you're telling me is I will probably owe you big bucks (or at least a BIG slice of cobbler). right?  :pie2:
Well don't count your ingredients yet missy! I still have a little time to redeem myself!
