Favorite Rock Creek area day hike
« on: March 25, 2012, 10:54:33 PM »
Since we have a new board and are gearing up for the new season,  which I suspect might start a bit early with the light snowpack,  let's start a poll.  For me,  my fav. has to be up to Chickenfoot and back.  I always catch a ton of trout up there in the creek above the lake,  and usually see very few people.  I can't wait till July!!
Once I arrive at Tom's Place...well,  you know...nothing else matters...

I liked the hike to Chickenfoot, fishing at each lake on the way, and then on the way back, going cross-country to Ruby and then back to the Flats.

Fun day.

Golden Lake day hike! It's a butt kicker of a day, but the views are second to none. Ruby would be my second choice, then the Tamarack trail.

I also like Golden Lake but I do it X country over the top of the ridge which makes it a much quicker hike and less strenuous if you can tolerate a little exposure (it really is not that steep - I have done it with children) and off trail hiking (it is all off trail).  I have been to Golden and fished both the lake and the stream flowing out in half day.  Try doing that following the trails.

The views from the ridge above Golden Lake is awesome.

We can now embed videos on the board!  Here's everyone's favorite hike...or one of them...

That is sooooooooooooooo cool, Creek Dude.  Do you have to post to YouTube first or how does it work?
Let me wake laughing from a nap in the afternoon under the aspens in the fall.

As long as someone's video has sharing enabled, all you have to do is click "share" in youtube under the video, copy the embed code, come to the board, click reply, click the embed button (a grey button next to the red flash button on the left), and paste the embed code from youtube between the board's embed codes...then preview it and see if it's there.  If it is, post it.  Try one!

FYI, the video of the LLV hike above is NOT mine...I just embedded it.

Sierraslam, to embed that video, click modify, then highlight the entire iframe code, and finally click the grey embed button next to the red flash button above the smilies...
