Bishop 3-16 thru 3-18
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:10:12 PM »
Arrived in Bishop around 9:00am on Friday and then drove up to PVR. It was our first time there so wasn`t sure what to expect. I had heard that near the “Tree” was a good spot, so we walked along till we came to what looked to be the one and only tree. The wife wasn`t too thrilled about the steep banks, but we made the best of it and started fishing. The bite was on and off all day, but I think we did pretty well for our first time. We C & R about 14-15 fish between the two of us, with a couple of nice ones that looked to be close to 2lbs. The weather was partly cloudy with a few wind gusts, but no rain.
Saturday we decided to skip the derby since it was raining when we got up, instead we drove around and checked out some areas along the Owens River. There was a break in the rain around 10, so we stopped and tried our luck for about an hour or so, didn’t even manage to get a bite. Went to the casino for lunch and a little gambling, the food was bad and our luck was even worse. After some good Mexican food at La casitas, we ventured over to Rustys bar and did a little St Paddy’s day partying with the locals, good times.
Sunday we had breakfast at Jacks and then headed home. We took a couple of side trips, one up to Glacier lodge where we met the lady who runs it, she was checking out the fresh snowfall and said they would probably be opening up soon. The other was up to Onion valley but the road was closed at seven pines. We had a good time and can’t wait for the next trip.

gone fishn, hope to be catchn soon !

Looks like a very nice trip. You should have fished some of those southern creeks on your way home. I don't think that I've seen a report anywhere for the early opener.

Thanks for sharing bstolton!  I usually take my mountain bike and ride down away from the crowds.

I was PVR Friday - Monday that same weekend. Agreed, the fishing was off the hook! Most fish were in the 15 -16 inch range and fat! I must have eaten a dozen trout that weekend. I lost a huge Alpers on Friday afternoon. I caught fish on pretty much everything in the box. DFG and Alpers stocked heavily for the derby. Some of the best fishing I've ever had at the RES. Can't wait until the real season starts. I predict a great Opener, but with the light snow pack, Fall could be really bad in the creeks. Just 1 more month. "The mountains are calling, and I must go!" John Muir    good fishin!

Sounds like a great weekend, I'm jealous, but 25 more days and I will be out of the LA smog and breathing that beautiful fresh sierra air.
