I haven't done enough cross country to have needed his books much but there is no other referenced or recommended more than his guides. He must have been a heck of a guy.

I have the “The High Sierra: Peaks, Passes, Trails” paperback by R.J. Sector.  Not a hiking trail guide, but a mountaineering book guide for treks off trail on cross-country travel for hikers who want to go beyond the well maintained trails.  That describes me to a tee!  Rest well.
