This lake gets its name from the color of its water.  Only makes sense to have gorgeous fish in this beautiful lake.

At the start of the trail you cross the Bridge over the West Walker River.  This bridge was build only a few years ago.

This is the old bridge

For this trip, I'll be heading to "Secret Lake", which is about a 2 mile hike.

Hello WSHawkins,

Great continued thread as always.

Q - Is - "My camp site is to the right at the picknick table.  Thatís Brownie Creek." - located in the Leavitt Meadows Campground or another nearby GG?  I have always wondered about that CG based on location and it's location in the lush hillside opposite the Pack Station.

Looking forwared to the rest of this photo TR as I recall in previous years' trips you had great success for the Cutthroats at Lane and Roosevelt.

All the best, P A C

Yes, thatís Leavitt Meadows Campground.  The campground borders the West Walker River and Brownie Creek flows through Leavitt Meadows Campground into the West Walker River.  A trailhead begins right at the campground which leads across a bridge, providing access to some great fishing lakes in the Hoover Wilderness.  Leavitt Meadows Pack Station and a Trailhead Parking is right next door to the Leavitt Meadow Campground, providing easy backcountry access to places such as Fremont Lake, Sister Lakes or even Yosemite.  This trip was taken in June of 2018.

Had Secret Lake to myself on this perfect spring day.  The trout here range from 12Ē to 16Ē.  Itís a deep lake and had to fish down to 30 feet before they started hitting my offerings.  Then it was non-stop action.  Highly recommend if you are ever in this area.

Nearby is Roosevelt and Lake Lakes, where outstanding Cutthroat fishing awaits you.  Itís about 3.2 miles from trailhead to get there.

Roosevelt and Lane Lakes are close together and are connected by a narrow creek.  I recommend hiking around both lakes to find that perfect spot to fish.

The Cutthroats come in large sizes here.  They also have some nice size Brookies here too but I catch mostly the Cutthroats at Roosevelt & Lane Lakes.  They are part of the Catch & Release program with the State of California with a 2 trout limit.

Great memories of that area. We took 6 horse/mule trips to the Sister Lakes for some great fishing. Harriet was the favorite base camp with great day hikes to the other lakes. They killed off two sisters for the Frog but still a great spot.
