Cal Trans Roadwork - June 18 through June 28
« on: June 12, 2012, 10:37:15 AM »
California Department of Transportation, District 9 Roadway Preservation
When:  June 18, 2012 to June 28, 2012
Where:  US Hwy 395 & State Route 108 Various Locations

Inyo County Crews will be fog sealing US 395 as per the following schedule to extend the life of the roadway.

June 18, 2012    So. Bishop city limit sign to Line Street  -  start time 8:00 pm
June 19, 2012    Bishop Shell Y Mart to Barlow Lane  -  start time 8:00 pm
June 20, 2012    Bishop area Barlow Lane to Pleasant Valley Dam Rd  -  8:00 pm

June 26, 2012    South of Bishop Gerkin Rd to So. Bishop city limit sign  -  start time 5:00 am
June 27 28, 2012 North of Bishop Gorge Rd to the top of Sherwin Grade  -  start time 5:00 am

Mono County Crews will be fog sealing US 395 & State Route 108 as per the following schedule to extend the life of the roadway.

June 25-26, 2012  Mono US Hwy 395 Bodie Road to Jack Sayer Road  -  start time  6:30 am
June 27-28, 2012  Mono SR 108 (Bridgeport) Hwy 395 & SR 108 Jct to lower gate  -  start time  6:30 am

The purpose of fog sealing is to rejuvenate the roadway by adding the naturally occurring oils back into the roadway that have oxidized out of the pavement.  This adds life to the pavement and allows it to perform better and be more flexible.

Please be advised that there may be up to 20 minute delays.  Flaggers will be directing traffic.  Slow down and watch for highway workers.

When approaching the construction zone the traveling public is advised to reduce their speed, observe the construction signs, and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

They were doing the same work after Memorial Day.  They started in Olancha and after a week or so had made it to Lone Pine so looks like they have continues the work North.  We were delayed in Olanch for 30 minutes but I had a heads up about the work.

Nothing yet (although I didn't go up today). What exactly is planned? I might have heard this already and forgot due to denial. This is supposed to be my respite from Chicago construction and traffic delays.....

I noticed some patch work had been completed on the Inyo County side, but not on the Mono side.  Any info on this would be great.

Nothing coming up the canyon yet. At least, not as far as Pine Grove.

I design road reconstruction projects, road widening projects, storm drain, sewer, traffic signals, etc.  One thing our department always strives to do is plan the construction portion for the least-busy time of year, whether it be when school is out, nothing around the holidays, basically trying to minimize the impacts on local businesses and the traveling public.  Unfortunately the State doesn't seem to care about local businesses and whether or not they lose revenue, and they don't seem to care about the traveling public, so they tend to construct their projects whenever they see fit.  What I meant by all that, is Caltrans will probably decide to start construction on those road improvements in the Canyon when more campers and fisherman are visiting the area.

Of course there are so many miles of roadways out there in dire need of attention, both on the Highway/Freeway/Interstate side as well as the Local/Collector/Arterial Streets side, so no matter what, there will be negative impacts on somebody and they will be unhappy about it.

Are you sure Caltrans is doing the work on RCL road? I would assume that it is a county project since it is not a State Highway. CT might be distributing FHWA funds to the local government, but Caltrans would not be a Lead on a facility that is not the State's. But we all know what happens when we assume.......

Personally I have no complaints about Rock Creek Rd except the jackwagons that drive it at warp speed...
