6.5 pound BROOK outta RCL!
« on: June 16, 2012, 08:31:13 AM »
This was posted on facebook by a guy that says he caught a 6.5 pound brook outta RCL fishing an olive matuka (best fly ever) near the boat dock...here's the fish he posted...

I've never heard of a large brook in the lake...crazy...like what's going on?  I kinda need to see the mountains behind him to prove the location until I'll completely believe it.  If it's true, that's the nicest fish I have EVER seen caught outta RCL!

I think that brook trout only live about 5 years max.  That's the biggest brook trout south of Kirman Lake I've ever seen.

I hate to be a party pooper,  but I am having a tough time believing that came out of RCL.  I guess it is possible,  but I have barely ever heard of keeper sized ones coming out of there.  By the way,  I have read that brook trout can live for 20 years or more,  that might not be an issue.  Who knows,  maybe I am fishing the wrong spot.  By the way creekdude...elk hair caddis is the best fly ever  :fishing3:

AWESOME looking fish! What a catch!! I don't think it looks like a 6.5lber.. 6lbers look MASSIVE. I don't know if I believe it was caught at RCL as well. He may be like my father and I.. Every trophy fish we have ever caught, we just tell people we caught it at "Convict Lake". LOL Everytime.

 :lol2:

Still a BEAST of a fish tho!

Saw this on FB too, he said it was caught on RC by the dam..... I didn't know RC had a dam other than the one the beavers made,  but I dont remember seeing that last year either

A lot of people refer to the outlet part of the lake where the road is as the dam...but yeah, there isn't a dam on the lake.  They did put rocks there years ago for the road I think...but no dam.

That's a nice fish that has Kirman written all over it. Seen a lot of those footballs come out of there. Awesome fish!

It's a beautiful fish, and one that I would love to catch, but I have to agree with the consensus; don't think it was RCL.

I think he's just using "RCL" for "CSI". Don't blame him either.

After review some things, it is difficult for me to believe it as well.  RC dosn't have any of those type of weeds growing at that elevation so dosn't look like the pic was taken at RC.
The creek is waiting...

The only place I can think of, and it makes sense, that there is a lot of grass to the right of the boat dock...although he said he caught it near the outlet, and there is no grass there.  Sure would like to give him the benefit of the doubt...but that's hard to do, since I never heard of this fish being caught, and I usually heard about things like this.

I sent him a message on Facebook, and he didn't respond.  I need to see his pics at Tom's...he said they have a few.  If anyone's there, please go down there and see if there are some pics of this fish...

I don't think this is RCL...

Robinson mentions in his book about his surprise in hooking a “football size” brookie in a particular lake in the Mammoth area.
Since that lake was also not previously known for lunker brook trout I guess that I have to give the R.C. guy the benefit of the doubt.

Idk tho if he says, there's a pic at Toms and threse not as you have said, then it's going to be hard for me to trust him that its from RCL.

He says he caught it and I accept that.  Why are fishermen/women so skeptical?

Well, here's a LEGIT big brookie caught out of the Rock Creek area...

It was caught on June 29 and was released.  Dude's our "featured angler" on the site until I get a new pic from someone.  Now we can have a discussion about big brooks in Rock Creek...they are there.  This isn't RCL though...it's LONG LAKE.

Very nice!  Not sure if it survived with the fingers in the gills, but it is definitely a nice fish!  Some of the wild trout are able to take a lot more punishment then little stockers.
