First trip of 2013
« on: January 14, 2013, 12:07:44 PM »
Got to go up 395 the 4th of January. Knew it was going to be a cold one when Diaz Lake had a sheet of ice covering it. Bishop was 40-50 degrees in the day light, but in the teens the early on. We fished Pleasant Valley Res. Friday and Saturday. The fishing was pretty good when using bait, pretty slow with lures. We got a few Browns in 14 - 16 inch range too. We were a little shocked on Saturday morning to hear shot gun blasts in the canyon. I looked around and found dozens of shell casings all over the shore line. I guess there were duck hunters there with us fishermen. I had no idea that would be legal, and wonder if it is since the shots stopped about 8:00 am. Stayed at Toms Place in little cabin 0. Even with the heater on all day it never got over 55 in the cabin. When it's 7 degrees outside 50 is pretty warm actually. Had great trout bbq in the snow. Enjoyed the breakfast and Bloody Mary's at Toms as I usually do. Pretty good way to start the year. Heading back up to Mammoth for my annual ski run on the 25th. I'm sure I'll sneak in a day of Winter fishing too. I should have 3 trips in before the Opener if all goes according to plan. Good fishin!

I'm waiting for it to heat up a little more before I head up.  Good times.

Thumbs up on "a pretty good way to start the year".   :fishing3:   Breakfast sounds great and the BBQ trout dinner in the snow must have had the compliments of some good libation.    :campfire2:
Let me wake laughing from a nap in the afternoon under the aspens in the fall.
