I went about 20 years in a row. Now I wait until the week after the opener. Finally got sick of the crowds. It's still a great weekend with lots of big fish taken though.

Terry, the last few years have not been bad at all,,, French Camp had over 25 vacant sites the opening weekend. There were very few people on the Upper Owens and  Rock Creek was basically deserted..  There were not the thousands of boats  on Lake Crowley like the press claims were there... My last 2 years in French Camp I had no one camped by me..

Booked the site today we'll be there through the 5th. Last year the crowds weren't bad at all, hopefully more of the same this year.

The last 3 years the crowds have not been bad at all.

However I have heard from a lot more people that they are going this year.  Just hope for some bad weather between now and then to keep them away.

The last few years the crowds have been a 5 on a 10 scale..... French Camp had over 25 vacant sites opening weekend the last few years....I  fished the upper Owens and there were maybe 40 people from the monument to the lake which is nothing....I fished the creek and there wasn't anyone around....

Avoid the lakes, and hit the creeks. That's the trick. You wont see a soul.

This wait is killing me.

It has reached that time of year again when my local streams and hiking trails no longer fill the void.

You've got that itch you just can't scratch, MGD, worse than poison oak.  Hang on, it's almost time!  :fishing3:

I feel bad for you people who only fish when the Sierras are open,  I would go crazy if I was just a seasonal fisherman...Castaic maybe twice this weekend,  Pyramid the next,  come here bass,  right this way

TT I think I spend more time on the water fishing than just about anyone on this board, and I'm still losing my mind waiting for the opener. There's truly nothing like fishing in the Sierra.

Period!

Mcgee Dude,,, no body spends more time fishing the Sierras than me,,,, There isn't anyone on this board that takes 10 plus trips a year and spend 50-60  days camping/fishing in the Sierras..

As far as fishing in So. Calif.... I refuse to fish anywhere in So. Calif...  I live 10 minutes from the creeks in the Mt. Baldy area and will not fish fish that area,

yes,  Packer,  white sea bass or striped bass,  throw back the black bass or else    Don't ever refuse to fish in any way shape or form Roy...well,  maybe so if you go to the Sierras that much,   but for those who wait till late April to fish,  you aint in Wisconsin or Nebraska,  there is liquid water in CA all year long,  get out there and get er done :chestbump:

Jo,  it is true,  when trout fishing,  especially flyfishing,  there really is nothing like being in the Sierras.  As soon as I get to Tom's Place,  I feel like I am in a different world.  I just can't get up there too much before Memorial day,  because :pie2: is not available :lol2:  although Salim and I might have to hit McGee Creek soon.  Roy,  I will take you fishing anywhere you want down here in So Cal,  I will even bring you a bottle of delicous LADWP water :lol2: :lol2:

The 10-day countdown is at hand.  Ten 24-hour stretches to go.  MGD, are you burning rubber yet, getting them ready to grip the road?  I'll wager R96's truck is already loaded with everything except his guns and ammo (those have to stay indoors and close I'm betting until the last minute).  I might bet that R96 has actually been sitting in his truck with his hands on the wheel, eyes closed and just thinking of his departure time, going over his list of lures and burning a few smokes.

Thump, thump - Nice one, Tex.
