Rock Creek Lake frozen?

Just wondering if  i will be able to go ice  fishing this year, last year i did not go out on the ice to thin

the lakes are thawing out (have thawed out) scary early this year.......   not a good thing :(

Lake thawed completely on Wednesday, April 24...

I think the prospects this year are not good.  The report I saw on sierra snowpack is 54% of average on April 1.  Last year, which was a bad year, it was 46%.  Not that much different.  Lakes are thawing out early is a bad sign.   Last year I made it up to Pioneer Basin, there were no snow or ice drifts over 11,000 feet to keep the water cold. The water at 11,000 feet felt like it was about 60 degrees-  terrible conditions for good trout fishing.

My Nephew crushed the trout back that way last year. He went right after the 4th of July and caught some huge Golden Trout. I think the fishing in the back country is way better right after the ice breaks.

I would say fish the creeks anyway,  flowing water is the way to go if the lakes seem to warm...
Once I arrive at Tom's Place...well,  you know...nothing else matters...
