Quick trip with Salim to McGee and Rock Creek
« on: May 06, 2013, 05:12:55 PM »
Did another of our day long road trips yesterday.  Did pretty well on lower McGee Creek,  we got several nice Rainbows on the barbless flies.  Most fish were in the 12-16 inch range.  Wind was blowing at Mach something or other (help me this Roy-up to 50mph lol),  making it a bit tough to flycast.  Water level actually seemed to be a bit higher than last year.  Headed up to Rock Creek after that,  was very cold at the lake with snow flurries.  I had to chuckle,  thinking about folks who ask what the weather will be like in 3 months,  yesterday we didn't know what it would be like in three hours!  Either way,  it was painful to see the pie shop still closed,  but the 3 nice trout I caught in East fork that I am baking tonight are helping to heal that pain!  Pics to follow soon...
Once I arrive at Tom's Place...well,  you know...nothing else matters...

A road trip like that does make for a long day but it sounds like it was worth it. Where is the fish porn?

working on it Terry.

Gary,
I actually enjoy a day like that.
we left at 5AM and returned by 11:30PM.
Fishing was fun, exploring a couple of sand traps was fun.
seeing wild burros, quail and deer was a bonus.

the wind was blowing so hard that no boats were seen on Crowley and not tubing at RCL.
All those folks were on the creek.

Your one day marathon reminds me of the time in 1992,, 4 of us decided we wanted to do a banzai trip to the Owens River.. We worked a 10 hour shift getting off at 0200,, drove to Bishop and arrived a little at 0600.. fished for about 5 hours, drove back and worked another 10 hour shift with no sleep..that was a serious butt kicker...

Wow! that's a quick trip. I've done one night trips and come home beat. Nice that you got into some good sized trout! I talked to some guy's at Toms Place that did well at McGee Creek. Got to get back there.

I've been known to make a day run up 395 but usually when I new someplace was fishing hot. Lately the Kern or Kennedy Meadows is as far as like to day trip. We did one a week ago to Isabella for the Crappie bite. We left at 5am and were back home by 4pm thanks to the Isabella noontime winds.

Hope to get some pics up here soon,  but photobucket changed over to some new format which totally freaking sucks.  Half the time the pics won't even upload and they are not in order once they do download.  Might have to find a new place to store my photos...

You and Terry seem to attract the very unusual! :lol2:  Must be that aftershave you use (Deet).  Glad you guys had a great time.
