Rock Creek 2012
« on: April 27, 2012, 12:38:23 PM »
Our ground squirrel crew is starting this weekend. Several months back 'home' in the canyon. Wondering how many of the little guys survived without much snow to insulate their hibernacula.

Normally we'd be sending updates of campground openings and road conditions, but thanks to Scout and Facebook, we don't need to!

Meanwhile, happy Fishmas to all!!

I hope they did well and survived. They are a major source of my campsite entertainment.  ;D

Are you going to be in the canyon with the crew this year?

Yep - but not until next month. Student will stay later too - it's her last field season, so she needs to fit in a lot! Can't wait to be back in mountains again...

This is more about getting to Rock Creek.

Construction on 395 along Topaz Lake. One lane only, so 'expect delays up to 20 minutes.' Seriously torn up road. Wouldn't want to drive it at night.

Lee Vining gas: $5.09.

Back in the mountains: priceless!!

I looked at that Crowley Lake webcam today and saw 3 bugs (mosquitoes ?) on it.  Any feedback on how bad they are right now?
