Just back from a quick trip to the Eastern Sierra, so have some recent fall colors to show.  Still some decent colors showing, but get up there in the next week or so for best colors.

It's a nice graded dirt road to Upper Summers Meadow Road, OK for 2 wheel drive cars.  The fall colors are about 4 to 5 miles drive up Upper Summers Meadow Rd.

Thanks to bj for recommending Conway Summit.  Conway Summit is near the Virginia Lakes turnoff.   It was a little past prime time but still some decent colors left.

Gorgeous shots, wshawkins.   Looks like candy in the trees.  Thanks so much for sharing your photos.
Let me wake laughing from a nap in the afternoon under the aspens in the fall.

Thanks saudust!  Wait until you see the June Lake Loop photos.  When the afternoon sun hit them it looked like the trees were on fire.  Color was busting out all over the loop.

Thanks Trev Dog for the nice comment.  This is my favorite time to visit the Eastern Sierra.  Good fishing, great fall color and no crowds.  Just does not get any better in my opinion.  We could use a good snow pack this winter as you said.

Decent color at Lundy Lake.  That's the trail to Oneida Lake on first 2 pictures.

Our end of season trip turned out to be a bust...fishing-wise.
When the fishing didn't pan out, we struck gold...and orange, and yellow, and even a little red.
The shut-down may have been a blessing in disguise for us. With no French Camp to stay in, we searched around for options. Rooms in Bishop were going for $89, and we'd need two. Then, we tried Tom's. Cabin 10 went for $110 a nite, and could sleep 5. Perfect, and only a crawl to the diner.

Cabin 10. And the color right behind it.

After dunking bait and throwing iron at the mini-sized South Lake, we stopped along the canyon to shoot some color. Bishop Creek. Beautiful, with a bonus of a friend in a tree.

Old Sarge, is obvious that you and your friends made the best of what could have been a bad trip. Good fishing doesn't make the trip the beauty of the Sierras makes it and from the looks of your pictures and the fact that you were a crawl away from good food say's that you nailed it!
Thank's for the great pictures!

Lovin' the pics, OldSarge.  The owl might just go to a screen saver, reminding me to be wise, outdoors and aspens in God's Country.

Thanks for your contribution OldSarge.  The fall colors look great and the great shot of a owl was pretty cool.  Looks like an Eastern Screech Owl, but I'm no expert.

Best color in Lundy Canyon was in the Lundy campground area.

Some really great photos. I see a little red on the north side of Conway. That area can be spectacular. We didn't have time for the June loop on the way home. Curious how that is or was.. You can really see the trail up to the mine and Oneida Lake on those shots across Lundy Lake. Great stuff!
