Sept. 28th - Oct. 2nd. trip to RCL
« on: October 04, 2013, 08:12:16 AM »
Hi Creekers! We just got home from our trip to RCL. Due to the windy conditions we were not able to fish but a few hours during the five days we were there. We still managed to catch 37 upon which we released all but four (including the 3lb 11oz Alpers I caught on a fly and bubble). The temps were great ...just really windy on most of the lakes. French camp was virtually deserted and the host were very helpful and nice. We didn't hike at all (as we had planned to) due to our four legged friend's health. He seemed to have an ear problem and did,t feel good, so we didn't push him. We tried a few different days to stop in for some pie, but seemed to get there just a tad too late. Seems that this time of the year the pie is harder to come by as visitors are becoming less. Does Sue cut back on the pie making during this time? Anyway...this will be my first attempt at posting pics to the board so I hope it works.

The Fall colors are really starting to show, but most are yellow or light green. I did find a few like this one that was turning orange to red.

A few of the sunsets were breathtaking from the camp site!

Made it down to Benton Crossing to see if there was any action. Special fishing restrictions are now in play now until the end of fishing season.

If this attempt turns out I will attempt to post some more of the pics from the trip.

Nice trip report fshrsmn.  I was up there about 2 weeks ago and the wind blew every day except the last day, which turned out beautifully.  Does make it hard to fish.  Sorry to hear about your dog ear problem.  It’s a dog paradise up there if their healthy.

Fall colors are looking good!  My favorite picture is the first one with the tree turning orange.  When you copy the links over from Photobucket, copy the “IMG” link next time (you can still edit your post) and it will look like this:

great trip!  i hope your four legged friend is doing well:)

love those photos!!!!

yea,, open your photo in photobucket... hover over the upper right hand corner,, a little wheel thing will show up... click on 'get links'   and on mine, its the bottom one,, for forums... click on it and it says copied (very briefly.. so look for it)   then you can paste the photo on our board, and it will appear as a photo.    (when you post it, the photo will not show.. and it may list the copied info twice.. that is ok:)  when you open the post, your photos will be there! :)

Thanks for the tips. I know it will get easier once I have posted a few times. Jasper is on doggie meds for his ear infection and that was another reason we didn't want to push him. I know how I feel when I'm sick, so we were being respectful for what he is going through. I was amazed how the fish were still biting in spite of the wind issues especially when 80% of the bites were within 10-15 feet of the bank. Usually after the wind blows that violently a few hours the fish go deep, but this was not the case this time. Despite the wind, it is always nice to be there and relax. We are already planning the trip next year...of course, after our trip to Yellowstone in June.

Great report.  As far as stopping in "a few times",  lol,  after one time you might want to ask what time the pie will be ready,  then you will know what we all know,  get there between 10:30-11am or else .  She does cut back a bit,   but we stopped in a week ago on sunday during the mentioned timeframe,  and had no problem getting lots o' pie...
Once I arrive at Tom's Place...well,  you know...nothing else matters...

Thanks Terry. We will have to remember that time frame for pie. We were recently thinking that since our last trip was cut shot due to the wind, we might try a weekend "turn-around" and stay in Mammoth, and therefore could have another chance at pie before the end of the season. Unfortunately this also was canceled due to the information I received from work that I will need to work 6 days a week from now until the end of the year to finish some projects that the deadline has been moved up. So much for that! I will have to settle into taking the bass boat out locally now until spring.
