LLV 10/27 Awesome Photo of Long Lake
« on: October 29, 2013, 06:15:58 PM »
Arrived at the mosquito flats trailhead at sunrise and only saw one other car there which was completely frozen over.  The temperature had to be under 20 degrees and what a mistake it was not bringing gloves!  There was some ice on the trail and snow here and there, Mack and Heart lake both had a significant amount of ice on the surface (a lot of it appeared to have melted on the hike back).  Our destination was Long lake and the water was unbelievably glass like and was the perfect photo op

Caught 4 brookies, 2 of which had some real nice red coloring on the underside which was cool to see.  Also stopped by the inlet at Box lake and caught one rainbow on a panther martin which gave a nice aerial show jumping out of the water 3 times.

I believe the area got hit by another dusting of snow yesterday so I definitely lucked out on my timing.

I was up there the week before and the temperature was at 19*F.  Talk about cold!  All the lakes in the early morning had some ice on them and some on the trail too, but in the afternoon all was melted as it warmed up.  Looks like you lucked out on the weather too.

Yeah, you nailed that early morning shot of Long Lake.  Real nice!
