A serious problem for bears....
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:10:23 PM »
Read a article this morning on the Sierra Wave website this morning that said due to the poor winter season there is no spring grass etc.
for the bears coming out of hibernation which is vital to them...According to Searles, the Mammoth bear guy there is no food for the bears.
He indicated that the mortality rate for the newborn bear cubs will be 100%.

I wonder if this will cause a increase in bears in campgrounds this season, especially for the clowns that don't follow the rules and
leave food out in the open....

That is so sad to hear, but it is the circle of life.  I love the bears that come around RC...even though they scare the crap out of me sometimes when they appear out of nowhere.  Hopefully it will be a wet spring.
The creek is waiting...

Nature can be tough as others have said.  I imagine Mammoth Lakes will have more trouble than normal with the bears with so little natural food.  Just don't feed the bears.  If you feed them, they will be shot eventually.  June Lake last summer had to shoot 3 bears because somebody was feeding them.  They started breaking into homes and they were shot.
