May 4th - 7th

We had a great trip to start off the season last weekend. the fishing pretty good, the weather was great! Five of us went up Thursday night and stayed at the family condo in Mammoth. Friday, at the crack of 8:00 am we went to Greenbanks at Crowley Lake. Did not have to pay, just negotiate the giant cement blocks they make you drive around. I caught 3 nice fish, and lost 3 others, which would be the theme of the trip for me. I must have hooked and LDR'd (long distance release) a dozen fish this trip. Not sure what the deal was, just one of those trips I guess. I Caught most fish on Mice tails, or Night Crawlers. I caught 1 nice Brown Friday that I kept because the hook set was really deep. We took 9 fish home the first day. Those Crowley pink meat trout are so good! Saturday we drove to the backside of Grant Lake. The fishing was pretty slow there. I caught 1 and hooked and lost 3 others. One of the fish I lost was a nice size Brown! Went to Lundy lake in the afternoon and it was wide open on little stocker's and Browns. I released about 6 little Brownies in the 7-10 inch range. Sunday the boy's wanted to go back to Crowley to see if we could get some of those bigger fish. I caught a few, and of course, lost a few. One guy in our group caught a 4 pound beauty that got attacked by 2 pelicans on the reel in. It was so funny! My buddy was freaking out on those giant birds. Somehow he got it away from them and got it to shore. That was the biggest fish of the trip too! Monday I dropped the gang off at Convict lake and did not fish. I get fished out after a few days, not my fishing pals though, they'll fish till the cows come home. I just like some time to drive around and check out the scenery. When I came back and picked them up to leave the stock truck came and dumped fish in Convict Creek. Those guys were dieing for one more chance. Sorry boy's, no fish in a barrel for you! DFG put in some nice size fish too. Good trip! Zero bag nights in the condo. From now until closer I'll be in the bag when I'm up there though. Five of us kept a total of 15 fish. Just enough to have 2 great trout fry's. I can't wait to go back! I'll put some vids up in a few. good fishin!

Thanks for the vids Sierraslam!! I've seen the stock truck do that a couple of times in the past, its always nice to watch. Some of those looked really big for DFG stockers! So I was wondering why Crowley browns dont seem to have the orange spots on them?

Thanks for the report! Cant wait to get back up there!!
Still waiting on my RCL Club Patch!

Nice trip report SS, I've got about 24 days left till school ends, then it's head for the hills!  You definitely got some nice fish.  I also like to take a break once every few days and just explore the area.
