Loaded up on free firewood
« on: September 06, 2014, 09:42:18 AM »
Went by a new home const. site near my home where they are in the framing stage... Asked the foreman if I could have the trash wood for camping... He said take all you want..... I ended up making 6 trips, collecting the small 2x4, 4x4 pieces....Brought it all home and stacked it nice and neat.....I figured I have enough wood for about 15-20 more trips. It will be a cold day in H... before I pay 6 bucks for the wood they sell up there....  8 days until my next trip......

R96, sounds like you won't need to go collecting pine cones much or chopping down old wood.  Do you still get all those beer cans for gas money?
Let me wake laughing from a nap in the afternoon under the aspens in the fall.

Will still collect pinecones for a quick morning fire,,,,, I never chop downed wood along the creek..... Will always cash in my cans...... I have about 100 pounds of cans right now waiting to be cashed in...

I agree French Camp always has plenty of big pine cones along the creek....The first thing I do after setting up my camp site is collect about 3 40 gallon bags of pine cones. I only burn pine cones in the morning for a quick fire before I go fishing,,,,I use them as my kindling in the evening when I will burn the wood I bring with me....

I am with you R96 that's exactly what we do. I have 2 bags in my garage right now if it ever cools off here we will burn them in our fire pit at home. My husband thinks I'm a little pine cone obsessed because I collect them every time we go. :camping:

Free firewood and recycling crushed aluminum cans! Mr 96, you definetly have a good plan in the works for all your trips. Every little bit helps!! Actually it will be a cold day in H... when you pay the 6$ because you will be COLD !
