This year will be my 42nd straight opener, every year since 1970.  Will be up there 3 days prior to opener weekend all by myself...Nothing but being in a pine box will stop me from the opener..

Man, I'm glad to have the board reborn in yet another iteration! I was getting the shakes!  ;D

The wife and I will be travelling to the holy land over opening week-end. I hate to miss the ice on opening day, but we figured that we better see Israel while we still have the chance.

I will have to make a point of doing more trips to make up for it.

I was there for the fall of Saigon, and the fall of Tehran...hope I'm not bad luck.

Unfortunately I will not be making opening of the Sierra trout season.  My first trip is currently planned for June (much later than I would prefer).  On the positive I also have a 2 week July trip to Sierras (Western side) planned.  I am sure that I will find time for a couple of trips that are not yet planned.

I do have nice plans for the opening trout weekend.   I will be backpacking Paria Canyon & Buckskin Gulch in Southern Utah that weekend.  It is supposed to be beautiful in a different way than the sierras.

I am going to spend opening day weekend out at Castaic helping with a Wounded Warrior fishing tourney.  I still have never been to Opening day in the Sierras and honestly have little interest in it.  Maybe because unlike a lot of folks I am fishing way before late April every year.
Once I arrive at Tom's Place...well,  you know...nothing else matters...

I want to head up the 25th. But I'm not sure yet. What areas are open before the opener in the RCL area to fish? I've never been up there that early but I want to give it a try this year.

The only area other than down in Bishop that you can fish before the opener is the Upper Owens River noth of Benton crossing bridge, Hot creek and the East Walker River.... All are barbless flies and lures only...

Awesome Thanks Retired! Think I'm gonna go to the Owens pre opener. Then to RCL for the opener. What time can you officially start fishing? 6am?

Not sure, but I think that's right...the countdown on the site is for 6 AM on opening day...the second you can start fishing I think...

All of the waters that opened for the "Early Opener" March 1st should be fishable. You will want to check the regs to be sure which streams are open.

Well its official I'll be fishing on Opening Day..... But not at East Fork this year I have been assigned Intake 2 in Bishop Caynon this year  .   There have been a lot of changes this year. Ed& Maxine are working in Texas and will not be up this year . Doug has been reassigned to oversee Bishop Caynon and has take his best people with him. I will miss all of you campers this season at East Fork .But will try to make it up for the Group weekend in July.
If ya make it to Intake 2 come by and say Hi............. Trust me I will be back some day to East Fork and Rock Creek Lake  Jackmac

Well that stinks Jack!  Next time I am in Bishop, I will run up and say hello to you!  Have fun in the new location.  We will miss seeing you in the canyon.
