The Chihuahua's name is Yoda he is about 16 months old, he is a ball of energy.  He belongs to my friend Neil.

The Brown dog is Mr. Aiden, but he goes by many names.  I was told he was Dob/lab when he was rescued.  My vet thinks he is more vesla and lab with a little pit.  He is about 6 years old and together him and I did about 180 miles Miles in the back country.

What a great hike!!!   Love these photos!

but where is the snow?

It's almost gone, but what is there is great in the morning and horrible in the afternoon.  I post-holed in most of the patches.  One of them was on top of running water and I ended up sprawled out face first was in the water up to my knees.  My waterproof boots are not that great if whole shoe is underwater.

What a difference a year makes!  I was up there last year in May and had to use snow shoes to get to Morgan Pass because it was so deep.  Looks like you make it to Lower Morgan Lake.  Did you see the old Miners Cabin?  Great report Scott.

Thanks for the information Scott.  I had thought that the lakes would still likely be frozen and that looks to be the case from Heart all the way up.  On the other hand they look like they'll be ice-free in no time.

I am about 99% sure that we made it to Upper Morgan, there is just no water in it.  It was the first lake we came too over morgan pass.

Yeah, that's Upper Morgan.  GREAT report.  Hey Scott, can I use 2-3 of these pics in an article for the website?  I need to update the article on the site's front page.

Really enjoyed this post, Scott.  Looked mushy to say the least in some of those trail stretches.  Thanks for the post and pics.
Let me wake laughing from a nap in the afternoon under the aspens in the fall.

Is this a lake that goes dry occasionally following a dry season?  Maybe like Dorothy or is it maybe Kenneth or Francis,  they might get low sometimes...just seems weird for this lake to suddenly be dry...

There is a lot more mush spots than I have pictured.  I was only taking pics when it was convienient, From Morgan pass down past chicken foot it is down right nasty and I wish I had my snow shoes in the afternoon.

Im not sure it goes dry as I have only been in the area for 2 years now.  However I did see fish jumping on the far non-iced side of the lake.  To me that means someone has stocked it after it went dry or it just gets very very low but never dried up.

It's hard to believe Upper Morgan would be dry after last years snowpack. Those photos were taken late September '08
