current winter access conditions?
« on: January 19, 2015, 09:27:05 AM »
I'm wanting to do a winter backpacking snow shoe trip to the rock creek lake area and little lakes valley soon.  I understand the road is gated, and the road is groomed in winter?  With not a whole lot of snow now, is the road open or closed?  Anyone now how much snow is back there?  thanks

spotted this on facebook...  but it does't answer your question:)

The road to Lundy Lake is open and the trail to the beautiful staircase waterfalls (frozen!!) is packed snow and ice. Check out Mono County Tourism's FB page.

Contacting the lodge would be a good place to start. Their winter business depends getting folks in and out of the valley.

We just got back from Rock Creek a few weeks ago.  Rock Creek becomes a snow park in the winter and there is parking about 7 miles up the road from Tom's Place at the designated snow parking area.  The area is a nice cross country ski/ snowshoe area and the trails are groomed.  They have a few different trails, some to the Lodge and anther (the road) to the lake. When we were there, the snow depth was only about six inches at the parking area, but many were out at the snow park.
The creek is waiting...
