Crankcase Grade, Circa 1930's

Those that are familiar with the Rock Creek area, will recognize this area as Crankcase Grade, the relatively steep hill located less than 1/4 mile beyond Mosquito Flat.  In the early 20th century, cars routinely drove through Little Lakes Valley to the mines in Pine Creek beyond Morgan Pass.  Automobile traffic through the area was ended in the 1940's when the forest service began "taking back" much of its land.  For a picture of the same area some 60+ years later, click HERE.
