Mosquito Flat, the road end in Rock Creek Canyon, is the jumping off point for two of the most popular hikes in the Eastern Sierra.  Starting at an elevation of 10,300 feet at Mosquito Flat and heading south, the hike through Little Lakes Valley meanders through beautiful riparian meadows, past numerous alpine lakes, and across quiet streams.  Majestic 13,700 foot peaks tower impressively over the valley, making this one of the most photographed regions in the Eastern Sierra.  Countless trout populate Little Lakes Valley's streams and lakes.

Mono Pass is another hike that is very popular in the area.  About 1/4 mile from the Mosquito Flat Trailhead, this trail forks west to popular areas on the Sierra's west side, including the Mono Creek Recesses, Lake Thomas Edison, and Pioneer Basin.  The pass tops out at an elevation of 12,000 feet.

The virtual hike that is presented here begins at Mosquito Flat Trailhead and heads south through Little Lakes Valley.  You can travel over Mono Pass on this hike as well.  Just choose "Mono Pass" at the trail junction.  All photos were taken by Tim Grimmett unless otherwise noted, or I forgot!  Enjoy your trip through the Rock Creek backcountry!

To Little Lakes Valley and Mono Pass!!
